Pollution in Perth

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry to bring the mood down guys but has anyone seen this? All about the pollution that the Alcoa plant at Kwinana generates.

Something to think about maybe.

We've already decided to head for Brisbane owing to property prices.

Males you wonder just why prices are so high in Perth having read this!

Well if you are wanting to come and live in the UK, you'd best get used to pollution mate. Cos it's pretty bad over here. You should sit in the traffic going down our main road every morning, and they say smoking gives you cancer

Great update - gives a good balanced view of the highs and lows. I'm sure this is how it is for most.

We'll be doing the same, we won't have been wherever we settle before (as long as we get the visa!)

Guess we are all gonna die of something sooner or later Wendy but people considering making a move half way around the world do deserve to get as many facts good and bad as they can before committing to one place.

You're going to Adelaide so it shouldn't be a problem

Personally if you are heading that way I'd recommend Golden Bay, Safety Bay, Dawesville.

Mandurah and Rockingham have their share of social problems and I don't know that Secret harbour is much better, or even Waikiki

Signs of the times I'm afraid.

So we arrive in Perth Australia never even visited before get the hire car big 8 seat people carrier(for the luggage) booked over the net through Avis no need to give cc details til arrival all fab!!
Start driving (well Rob Does) oh my god its so easy hardly any traffic and so slow (bank holiday so double points if you get caught speeding) but finding our rental easy gets to rental and its nice and clean and an ideal base in the northern suburb of Kinross!!
Cant get over how new everything is reminds me of the Jim Carey film where he is living life not knowing he is being filmed cant remember what its called!! I found it really weird so new and clean everywhere!!
Had to go and find a takeaway for dinner which was a bit worrying coz we didnt have a clue where anything was but found of all bloody things a fish and chip shop so our first ozzy meal was fish and chips. Feeling really tired we must admit to thinking what the fluck av we done we left a good lifestyle back n te uk but i will put it down to being knackered!! Also i expected to be able to phone the uk from the house but the phone was blocked so couldnt had to wait to buy a phone card!!ly on anyone when you are in a new place and know nobody its really unsettleing

Monday drove down south to Mandurah stopping and checking out suburbs along the way we rally liked the feel of Rockingham port kennedy and secret harbour. The beaches are absoloutly breath taking and if EVER i doubt what we have left behind (excluding family and friends) i will spend 10 minutes looking at the ocean and for me the answer is there thats a personal opinon and somthing that makes me feel good and at peace i loved sitting by the sea in the uk but given the choice of brown sewage and grey sky to turquoise waters white sand and blue sky there really is no competion!!
Came back to the rental feeling really positive !!
Tuesday
Boring depressing feeling really lonley know absoloutly no one spent the day at the bank and medicare and food shopping and it just felt really stressful and lonley because mainly we have no friends (aaaahhhh get the violins out)
although in the uk we didnt have a big social circle and didnt rely on anyone not knowing anybody and not knowing the system is really unnerving!!
Weds
Great day went looking around Butler Quinns Brighton areas and although I think I prefer Rockingham there is Sooooo much work going on with Rob being a plasterer i think we will end up up here we liked Mindarie most out of the areas!!
The kids now except the youngest cant wait to start school to make friends and to be honest i think thts what we all need is to get into our own home and back into routine to feel at home!!
Anyway back to the great day we drove fom Suburb to suburb checking out the beaches along the way and they are all fantastic!! some area are more commercial than other but from what we have seen even the commercialised areas are laid back and quiet!!
Anyway i drivvelled on for long enough im on dial up pay as you go so if you want to ask anything just shout and i will try and get back

Hi kris,
i rememberyour name from way back. Glad to hear you.ve arrived safely.
We got our kids in school first....before we found rental. Now wish we'd done it the other way round - as couldn't find rental near school. Never mind - i just have to travel 18mins to school each day n back as didn't want to disrupt them again.

enjoy your first few weeks
