Default proper perth update!!

Well we arrived Sunday afternoon me rob and 3 kids 4/10/12 with singapore airlines cant get over how easy the flight was and hardly any jetlag!!! Singapore airlines fab!!

So we arrive in Perth Australia never even visited before get the hire car big 8 seat people carrier(for the luggage) booked over the net through Avis no need to give cc details til arrival all fab!!
Start driving (well Rob Does) oh my god its so easy hardly any traffic and so slow (bank holiday so double points if you get caught speeding) but finding our rental easy gets to rental and its nice and clean and an ideal base in the northern suburb of Kinross!!
Cant get over how new everything is reminds me of the Jim Carey film where he is living life not knowing he is being filmed cant remember what its called!! I found it really weird so new and clean everywhere!!
Had to go and find a takeaway for dinner which was a bit worrying coz we didnt have a clue where anything was but found of all bloody things a fish and chip shop so our first ozzy meal was fish and chips. Feeling really tired we must admit to thinking what the fluck av we done we left a good lifestyle back n te uk but i will put it down to being knackered!! Also i expected to be able to phone the uk from the house but the phone was blocked so couldnt had to wait to buy a phone card!!ly on anyone when you are in a new place and know nobody its really unsettleing

Monday drove down south to Mandurah stopping and checking out suburbs along the way we rally liked the feel of Rockingham port kennedy and secret harbour. The beaches are absoloutly breath taking and if EVER i doubt what we have left behind (excluding family and friends) i will spend 10 minutes looking at the ocean and for me the answer is there thats a personal opinon and somthing that makes me feel good and at peace i loved sitting by the sea in the uk but given the choice of brown sewage and grey sky to turquoise waters white sand and blue sky there really is no competion!!
Came back to the rental feeling really positive !!
Tuesday
Boring depressing feeling really lonley know absoloutly no one spent the day at the bank and medicare and food shopping and it just felt really stressful and lonley because mainly we have no friends (aaaahhhh get the violins out)
although in the uk we didnt have a big social circle and didnt rely on anyone not knowing anybody and not knowing the system is really unnerving!!
Weds
Great day went looking around Butler Quinns Brighton areas and although I think I prefer Rockingham there is Sooooo much work going on with Rob being a plasterer i think we will end up up here we liked Mindarie most out of the areas!!
The kids now except the youngest cant wait to start school to make friends and to be honest i think thts what we all need is to get into our own home and back into routine to feel at home!!
Anyway back to the great day we drove fom Suburb to suburb checking out the beaches along the way and they are all fantastic!! some area are more commercial than other but from what we have seen even the commercialised areas are laid back and quiet!!
Anyway i drivvelled on for long enough im on dial up pay as you go so if you want to ask anything just shout and i will try and get back

kris, so nice to hear your update. you so used to many many names passing through on BE, but some stick in your mind, for one reason or another. you lose track of where they are up to in their lives and what they are currently doing.

it will get better, you will start to get to know the 'system', you will move slowly into your lives again, work/schools/homework/food shopping, all the mundane things that we all have to do (or most or us!!! ).

you have set off so well. it sounds great. keep us posted, as its threads like this that shows there is light at the end of the tunnel.

take care honey

Congrats on arriving safely, allow time to settle and adjust and you'll be fine. We are heading out of London end of November and can't wait. I'm originally from Perth and have been in UK past 15 years so returning to Oz for good feels like I'm moving to a new country. Other half is English so its a big step for him too.

Enjoy the weather and beaches, its still miserable here!

May I be the first to CONGRATULATE you; fabulous post, honest too; we read and re read it, because this is the area that we are heading to, I think you are doing great, internet (??!!) where did you manage to sort that out is it a cafe or has the rental got pc?

Where out of interest did you manage to find the car and house rental, if you get chance to pass some details on that would be great too.

We also want to do Singapore airlines, so thats good news too.
At least your not thinking of this as a holiday, I'm sure I will at first, then after a couple of weeks I would start to think what I've left behind..at least you've not got those rose tinted glasses on either!

So glad you managed to write this thread, when we first started on this site you were always there with your comments, and when you got your visa I shouted to my OH "Kris Maynard has their visa" - like I know you !!mad eh!
Anyway good luck, your are NOT missing anything here at all, just cold rainy april days...enjoy your new life and keep us posted !!!

Can't wait to be there!!

HAPPY DAYS AHEAD........................

Hi Kris,

Gosh I really admire anyone that can do what you have done. You are so brave moving to Perth never having been there before. Hopefully it won't be long before you settle.

We are coming out on 17th May and now it is for real I am feeling a little subdued. I know it will be great, but it is just this part which I am not enjoying and will be glad when we get there now.

What are you doing for schools are you going to get your kids into the school in the suburb where you are renting or are you waiting to see where you want to live? that is the thing that most bothers me I don't want to put them in a school and then have to move them.

If you need friends we will be renting in Connolly for 7 weeks to start with. We will be friendless too.

Excellent post! Thanks Kris. We are hoping to move to Perth September & plan to do as you have, rent somewhere short term initially whilst looking round suburbs. It will also be our first time in Perth, in Oz for that matter. We like the sound of Rockingham & surrounding suburbs but you just don't know till you're there do you.
Would love to hear more about your findings of the suburbs.
Hoping to rent somewhere central initially so not so far to travel when on our search! Are you in a furnished/unfurnished & where did you book your rental? Have been doing searches but not had much luck.
Thanks
Leigh

Welcome to Perth!

Wonderful post, sure does takes me back, that bizarre feeling I had when I arrived of everything not really being real.

A year and a half later and it's just starting to sink in. That beautiful sunset over the ocean does it everytime for me.

Great post Kris. Thanks for sharing! We'll be moving to Rockingham in June and staying with the in-laws till we find our own place. Just got a place at a private school in Rockingham which is meant to be good. My sister-in-laws kids go there too. Don't know anything about schools in the area but my mother-in-law said the local schools aren't that great there. Don't know if it's true or not though. We're hoping to move closer to Perth as soon as we find our own place and then will put our kids in a local school. Good luck with everything!

Kris xx
