Proccessing time for a defacto visa?
 

Relocating to Oz next year - aiming for the end of Jan

My partner is an Aussie so we are going for the defacto spouse visa. We are actually engage and have a baby on the way, however we feel that the fiancé defacto option will pressure us to get married when we want to just take it in our own time.

We have been together since Jan 04, but only lived together since April 04. We are looking to apply for the visa around June/July; does anyone have any idea of how long the process can take? We would apply straight away but want to gather more evidence.

you need to have proof you have been together for 12 months - joint bills, bank accounts, mortgage statements, etc

get at least 2x certified copies of all your and your partners documents required (degree certs, transcripts, birth cert, passports, certified photographs), if you need to keep your original bills / statements, any photocopies need to be certified, so another trip to the solicitors


thats whats taken so long for me to get all the blimmin docs done, once they're in tho, it seems less than 6 months it takes for a visa

Have just been down this route myself with my brit hubby, we have been together since '89 & have 2 kids.
We stressed about it for way too long. we eventually got it all done, provided as much info as we could, simply and straight forward. Posted it off one Monday in Feb & by the friday of the same week, we had an email informing us the visa had been granted. apparently you have to front load your meds nowadays, & the documents all get tied up at AHC.

There are loads of people on here that can help with your queries, sometimes the ones that are of the most help, are the ones already in oz, so don't forget the time difference. or you can do a search by clicking on the box on the top right.

you contact the DRs yourself, have the checks, & they send them off to AHC (Aus High Commission), where they eventually get matched up with your application forms.

Not being thick.

Get everything together, including meds done and pcc done. The meds will be sent straight to AHC by the doctor. At the same time you send everything, special delivery is best. When it all goes at the same time ie not waiting to be asked for meds, it is called front loading.

If you don't need the passport for a few weeks, send that as well, that way, they don't need to request it. If you do enclose it, also enclose a return special delivery envelope otherwise they will send it back royal fail :eek:

PCC takes at most 40 days to get back, mine took about 21, so work dates out from that. Don't have the med too soon, just in case something happens and you can't get out there when you are hoping to.

The meds & x-rays can only be done by DIMIA approved doctors. The link for these is

yOU CANNOT DOWNLOAD THE REQUIRED FORMS. You must send an email with information about your visa. The link tellingyou what info to give and the email address is

Try ringing around the docs in your area as charges can vary from dr to dr

This info was passed to me nearly 6 mths ago, so i hope it is still up to date.

For spouse visas applying to AHC you can now download the forms. Changed either December or March.
