Problem with pool pump - advice please!

Problem with pool pump - advice please!
Our daughter managed to pull the baracuda out of the pool whilst the pump was on today! When we realised we put it back in - it didn't work initially so we emptied a small amount from the pool and then turned the filter back on - it threw out lots of dirt into the pool. It then carried on working for a couple of hours.
HOWEVER, it was off due to the timer but the pool was still dirty so we tried to turn the pump on manually - result - NOTHING!
anyone got any advice on what to do - apart from the obvious in contacting pool maintenance. We are in a rental so hope to rectify it ourselves!
thanks in advance
Nicky

yeah but worried about picking up the tab for a new pump! We've only been here a couple of months and the pump was newly installed just before we moved in!

Any sort of buzzing noise at all ? Checked any fuses !!!
Read http://www.poolplaza.com/pool-school...shooting.shtml
1) Pump has run dry, but has protection, so you should be able to prime it. As in picture is there any water in the pool basket ? If not, slightly loosen lid to let water in/air out. This should prime the pump.
2) Pump has run dry, but has no protection. Impeller blades burnt out.
3) Leaves parts got though the basket and have jammed the impeller. You can normalled hear buzzing for 10 seconds before motor overheats and cuts out.
4) Leaves parts got though the basket and have jammed the impeller. No thermal cut-off, pump burnt out.
5) Starter capacitor burnt out. Pumps need a boost provided by a capacitor to get them started.

Just showed hubby your info and he has been out there and seems to have sorted it!
Thanks again for taking the time

Good that its sorted. Quite often when the pump runs dry it can turn itself off as it over heats and takes time to reset it self.
