Default Problem - medicals

What to do?

I'm in the process of applying for PR (Skilled Ind). You probably don't all want to know this, but I've had irritable bowel syndrome for many years now - was checked out by gastroenterologist years ago and that was the final diagnosis.

A few months ago, it got worse so I saw my (new) GP who referred me to another gastro. Trouble is, waiting list is >20 weeks from now.

Medicals have just been requested from DIMIA - so what do I do??? Will they fail me because of this (seeing its most likely still IBS, but I cannot prove it until 4-5 months time)?

I'm worried.... HELP!

If you can afford it pay for the "nice procedure" privately. Thn you can prove it.

Cheers

When I recently went for my medical it became obvious to me that anything that you detailed you had to either give evidence that it has been diagnosed and being treated. Indeed the panel Dr that we saw even requested additional letters from my GP with reference to something going back many years. As he said he didn't want us being referred for more investigations and therefore charges. I'd also comment that honesty is the best policiy.

Good luck, go private if you can or speak to GP for a letter.

When I was applying for my family my daughter was in mid-treatment when the request for medicals came up. I simply wrote to DIMIA and asked for the deadline to be extended. They resonded quickly and were happy to oblige.

Neil

(But I agree with the others - do it private if you can afford it)

I am interested in this. I dont think IBS is something that needs to be hidden. Its something that people dont really want to talk about but its a known functional/ Physiological illness. I had IBS-A. Its become a huge problem in US cause of diet/lack of fitness.

I myself suffered since christmas time for about 5 months. Had xrays/blood tests/ultra sounds cause I was ill from initally food poisioning which lead to gastoritis, then just lead to diestive problems & pain. Had to change my diet/excercise/my thinking to try to alter the cycle.

I have used the info & medicals the specialist gave me. Seems to have worked, last 2 months have been fine. Got my old self back gradually.

I am someone who is a young plays for 2 footy teams, never smoked, hardly drank, healthy weight, watch my diet & train alot. So it can happen to anyone at anytime.

I am concerned now cause will have to explain this at a medical.
Will this be a problem? I never lost work over it though it was stressful time of life. Have no other medical problems.

Is there anyone who knows whether IBS is listed as medical problem? Or would I need my doctors note to say have got all clear before I have my medical?

Thanks

Do you know what the maximum extension DIMIA would be willing to give for medicals? Would they be willing to extend by several months?

I am happy enough to wait this time, but are they??
