Hi, Don't know too much about Melbourne as probably relocating to WA, but whilst looking at school websites found this:
www.bcl.com.au/melbourne/schools.htm
Seemed to have independent schools and a map to search from, hope this helps.
Good luck,
Jane

Also try this site for people specifically heading for or in Victoria.

http://s7.invisionfree.com/BritVics/index.php?

The Mount Eliza area on the Mornington Pen has good kinders and primary schools. The Frankston Highschool has a very good reputation but you have to live in the school zone to go there, and even then it's not guaranteed. Frankston South is a lovely area. It's Frankston North that has the bad rep.

There's also Mt. Eliza secondary which I don't know alot about heard it's ok but there's a few private, Peninsula School & Toorak College.

There is a monthly magazine that comes out called "Melbournes Child - Melbournes Best Guide For Parents" the August edition is on schools. It can be found in most bookstores and children apparel shops.

There is also a website www.melbourneschild.com.au

I'm more impressed by the educational standards, facilities, and student behaviour at Brighton Grammar, and Trinity Grammar. Of course, Geelong has a great reputation but this school seems most like the British-type class system in Australia that I've come across. It may open doors and create opportunities for it's students, but I'm not sure the educational standards are as high as some of it's competitors.

It doesn't really matter does it, if a kids going to do well they'll do well anywhere.

It's all about application.

Certainly, loads of excellent private schools, but also lots of excellent state schools as well and the accelerated program means that exceptional students can progress quicker.

I think the most important aspect is the quality of backup at home. No use sending the kids to a decent school (public or private) and getting no backup at home.

Not sure this is true. There are some right crap schools about and some that are overpriced and over-rated. But a kid will flourish at some schools easier than at others. It's like an adult needing a good working environment to be able to most be most happy in employment
