hi to all,just wandered if theres any printers out there and what the trade is like out there,job wise and wages,thanks.

Hi Mark, my husband works for Heidelberg USA, the largest printing manufacturer in he world..They have an office in Australia...
my other half used to be a printer good money if you are on the big presses..maybe you could check out there website and get some ideas...its worth a try. www.heidelberg.com

Hi mark, my husband is a printer and got a job no probs (once he finally startd looking:rolleyes:). He got a 3 month trial, (and started at $21 per hr), but after six weeks the boss told him the trial was over and he would talk to him about wages, and now he wont tell me what he earns:curse: Can i just add my husband loves his job here and says he works with a really good bunch:)

Also we have friend recently emigratedwho stayed with us , he also a printer, and got a job no probs at $56,000 per year, plus salary packaging and overtime when reqd, he was also offered a job at $35,000 per year, guess what one he took:)

Thats really good to hear my hubby is in training at the moment to become a printer tho it doesnt look like we will be able to move for a few years I still come on here and torture myself! if only he could finish his training over there it would be just perfect! Wishful thinking eh:unsure:

melbourne itself is amazing , we have been here 7 months now and just getting to know our area, at first i thought it was just a large suburb with a big road, but you just have to find the stuff to do, lots for everyone. \its an expensive suburb and i dont think we will ever be able to buy here, but we're here for for at least another two years as i have teen who has settled into school and she has gotta stay there to get her vce, also 9 year old is ok, surprisingly enough we thought we would have trouble with teen, its turned out to bethe opposite way around, she has really settled well, but 9 year old gets quite homesick. I've gotta admit i am a bit homesick too and have my up and down day, today a bit down and yesterday i didn't want to be anywhere else in the world:confused:

The thing i find the most amazing about melbourne is the amount of work around, even for printers:lol:

Hi Margaret,just what visa you applied for,was it through your husbands trade an whats your oppinion on the schools there,do you have to send your children to private schools.Where are you in Melbourne,can you recomend some nice suburbs,I have two young children(5 and 8)we just came back from a 4 week holiday in OZ and we had a week in Melbourne,the weather was'nt great when we were there which put us off.

Melbourne defintely has better options for printing than Sydney. We planned to move there five years ago and didn't because of my job move to Sydney. It took my husband a fair while to land a print job here. In fact he took a car sales job for two years before trying again.

Rates are good for award places especially if working shift. A bit more who you know in Sydney for jobs but not impossible.

70K basic could be attainable with shift work and with overtime, 80 and 90 are achievable.
