Default Primary/Special Needs Teacher on a 457?

Hi Guys,

My family (Me, wife & 2yr old daughter) have been granted a 457 visa and would like to know if is possible that my wife could (potentially) work (full or part time) as a primary or special needs teacher.

She did have her skills assessed in a previous visa application about 3 years ago.

She has had successful police checks certificates done in UK.

We are heading to Sydney area.

Thanks!

From a visa point of view, yes she can work as whatever she likes

I can't help from the teaching point of view but I'm sure someone on here will know what she needs to do to register in NSW.

She could but she is not likely to. There are plenty of unemployed teachers all wanting positions in Sydney (nice desirable location and all). The one thing going for her is that she is Special Needs (I hope with qualifications and not just experience) but I wouldnt be holding my breath. Perhaps she'd consider a change of career. If not, she could start here http://www.dec.nsw.gov.au/about-us/c...roval-process/

If my experience in qld anything to go by she will get work doing relief and contracts ... You need to gain experience etc for permanent roles but year long contracts are plausible once you you are known in a school. Its all about getting known . Contact nsw education .

I have enjoyed relief - you finish by 3 no work at home and if you get into your child's school no afterschool care. i dont need to work fulltime but school hols without pay frustrating!!!

About to start with registration all over again in Darwin.

Thanks all for your comments, this gives us something to think about.

Contract/relief work would be an option to start with.

If it doesn't work out, then a career change could Plan B

Thanks again!
