Primary Schools - Sydney
 

Hi all

We have recently emigrated to Sydney
On a PR 175 and loving it!

We live in the Northern Beaches of Sydney ( Warriewood area).
We are in the process of looking for good primary schools in the area,
and was wondering if anyone can recommend any ?

Both Catholic and Public schools will be considered, and we don't mind traveling a bit to drop the kids off as long as its not too far..

I have recently posted similar question about secondary schools in Central Coast and only had one response. On the other hand if you look at the discussion re alcohol prices in Oz vs UK you will see hunreds posts. I have an impression that people who move to Oz either do not have children or too preoccupied with drink prices and unable to provide any advice / help re schools.:confused:

Hi Deon,
We have recently settled in Frenchs Forest and I had to do the whole pre school/school research thing too. I got some answers on the myschools website, but best is really from other parents in your area. My boys are 1 and 2,9yrs. Give me a shout if your wife and kids would like meeting up for a play date somewhere like Narabeen lakes (brilliant kids park). Best is if she joins anything and everything she can in the area (like playgroups, at the library, etc) and meeting people in the area. Good luck.

If you do a quick search of the forum you'll see numerous discussions on schools in Aus. Sometimes the whole front page is full of them, bit tedious for those of us who have no kids :D

It does depend on who is active online at the time sometimes - school holidays at present so I know a lot of family posters are missing.

Deon, just pick the nearest local public school and go for it.
We lived on the Northern Beaches last year and there are few, if any, BAD schools around there.
You could spend hours and days trying to view each statistic and the best education results, then enrol your child and then find out he/she absolutely hates it and can't make friends.
If you choose the local school you will meet other local parents, who then use local clubs and local sports facilities and all have the same local birthday parties. Before you know it YOU will be a local! Try it....its fun! :)

If you are on Facebook, there's a lady on their with a page called Northern Beaches Know How and she seems to take new arrivals around schools etc. It's a business so there will be a charge I assume but I have no idea how much.

Sorry, but I don't really know any of the schools in Warriewood so can't help more than that. I agree that getting to know other parents in the area and hearing their opinions is the best way forward though, no web site can tell you what it's really like in any given school.
