primary schools cleveland

Hi,
We will be moving in October to Queensland and require advice regarding primary schhols around the Cleveland area. My daughter will be 8. She is very keen to learn and a good student but she isn't a natural brainbox, therefore smaller class sizes are improtant to me. Any advice and opinions would be gratefully recieved.

Hi there

There area a few schools in the area. Cleveland has its own primary school, but nearby there's also Thornlands, Bayview and Ormiston. Then there's Star of the Sea Catholic school (small fees to be paid) and Ormiston College (big fees to be paid).

Bayview is a brand new school, with small classes (for the moment) and modern facilities, but you need to live in catchment for a place. Star of the sea is also quite a new, and small school.

Ormiston College has small class sizes, but you pay for that privilege.

Hope that helps - does it have to be Cleveland or are any of the other Bayside suburbs a possibility.

Love

Rudi

Hi there,
I know this site has had some stick since it was lauched but it is worth a look, http://www.myschool.edu.au/ it might give you a basic idea, then try this http://education.qld.gov.au/help/cishlp01.htm and for a basic idea of the area try this http://www.locationlowdown.com.au/se.../QLD/Cleveland . After saying that though i do reckon that the best way to find a decent school, or one that suits you and your kids is to speak to people who know.

Good luck with your search

Bob

Private or State schools ?
How far out from Cleveland are you prepared to go ?

I live about 10 minutes from Cleveland, in Victoria Point, to give you an idea of the distances and travel time.

Realistically I cannot afford to send her to a private school (unless it is heavily subsidised), therefore any advice on a good state school within a 20 minute radius of cleveland would be appreciated. Do you have to be catholic to go to catholic schools.
Thanks
Beth

No, you do not have to be Catholic to go to a Catholic school.

Private schools here are pretty well subsidised.

You can check the fees of one of the local Catholic schools at: http://www.stritasvp.qld.edu.au/docu...eeschedule.pdf

And fees at a local Private school, (although Faith based, it doesn't seem very much so)...
http://www.stritasvp.qld.edu.au/docu...eeschedule.pdf

and the fees for one of the more expensive ones in our area: http://www.ormistoncollege.com.au/co...=getfile&id=12

When we first arrived nearly 5 years ago (our daughter then 9 years) attended Wellington Point Primary State School within 5km of Cleveland and we were highly impressed with the education that she received.
As said previously, our advice would be to arrive, have a look around as many schools as possible in the area where you would like to settle, then get a feel for the school and go with your gut instinct.
One persons opinion doesn't always match what you are searching for when meeting your childs individual requirements
Good luck with your search
