Default price of schooling

We are attempting to come to australia on a state sponsored business visa.
Have been informed we will have to pay for our son education whilst we are on a temp visa for 4 years. Does anyone know what sort of fees we are looking at (perth). Would be grateful for any help.

I was under the impression that only NSW (and possible ACT) charged state school fees for temp visa holders

Which Visa are you on ?

School Fees for 457 Visa Holder
Although the 457 visa is classed as a temporary visa, it must be noted that it is a Temporary "Resident" Visa, and not a Temporary "Visitor" Visa.

Most States allow the children of Temporary "Resident" Visa holders to access Government School facilities under the same conditions as Citizens and Residents.

However, it must be noted that the ACT and New South Wales do NOT.

Thanks for all the replies
we are trying for a state sponsored business visa where we have 4 years to set up and run a business. We were told this would mean we would be temp residents and therefore have to pay for medic and schooling.
Only going on what weve been told so i just wanted to know how much we would have to find per annum.

We are only just starting out for our visa so any advise on Perth or other things would nbe gratefully received!!!!!

That would be correct IF you were going to NSW and ACT, but QLD and other States do treat temp residents differently.

If you can check the exact Visa that you will be getting, it will be easy to double check it.

Also, who told you about the schooling costing you, and did they know you were going to QLD, and did they know that NSW is different

The following is information that I have on this, including costs for NSW & ACT

NSW charges between $4,500 and $5,500 per child for education whilst on a 457 Visa. www.schools.nsw.edu.au
ACT charges between $9,500 and $13,500 per child for education whilst on a 457 Visa.

QLD treats 457 Visa Holders the same as Citizens and Residents.
WA treats 457 Visa Holders the same as Citizens and Residents. www.eti.wa.edu.au- listing of fee paying visas
VIC treats 457 Visa Holders the same as Citizens and Residents.
SA treats 457 Visa Holders the same as Citizens and Residents.
Tasmania treats 457 Visa Holders the same as Citizens and Residents.
Northern Territory treats 457 Visa Holders the same as Citizens and Residents.

I am assuming that your are British so as far as healthcare gfoes you will be entitled at least to the reciprcoal healthcare agreement which means you would get limited Medicare. It may well be the case that you get access to full Medicare however.

Medicare is the closest thing in Australia to the NHS but you will need to make partial payments for many medical things such as about $15 to visit a GP.

You can choose to take out private mdeical insurance if you wish which would likely start at around $150/month.

We have a busy restuarant/pub in the country and are thankfully still doing ok.(all home made food and sourced locally) We are hoping to start a business in WA doing the same kind of thing or anything in the catering area, and wonder what is the in thing for eating in wa.what is new, what is successful, what sort of areas would be good. anything of interest would help us in our business plan. We arecoming over for a holiday in December and have been to perth once but that was in 1990!!!.
Thanks in advance

Can't speak for WA but google "modern australian" and you'll get an idea of what to serve.

Decent pubs type food might include the following:

Chicken Parmagiana (no, really)
Maybe some kangaroo steak
Pies are still a big hit in Oz
Barramundi, fried,grilled or battered
a rissotto of some sort
defo a steak dish

and make sure there are always "snow peas" in the salad and aioli available.

Look here for the menu of a supposedly "british" style pub; it is very popular here:

Here's an example from a pub which has a separate restaurant:

or tryhere for a modern pub with an awarded seafood restaurant:

Sorry these are all from Queensland but I suspect similar to what is available in WA.
