The price of Milk in Australia…

Government figures out today (source ABS), 29th July 2009 show the following area prices for a 2 litre bottle of milk.
  • $ 4.10 Darwin
  • $ 3.71 Canberra
  • $ 3.70 Hobart
  • $ 3.61 Melbourne
  • $ 3.53 Adelaide
  • $ 3.41 Sydney
  • $ 3.22 Perth
  • $ 3.18 Brisbane
I get mine at the local Fruit and Veg store for $1.99, but ALDI do it for $2.19, or sometimes cheaper.

What price do you pay ?

All milk is not created equal. Supermarket milk is tasteless and a rip-off. We drink Ferguson Valley which tastes great but is not widely available. I think it's about $4.00-4.50 for 3l. As an alternative it's Harvey Fresh which is $4.89/3l.

Woolies own isn't bad. Coles's own is rank. I generally get mine from the local fruit barn at $3.60 or so for 3 litres, not sure, don't take much notice of prices in there, I know they're cheaper than the big two and that's all that matters.

I can't taste the difference - although interesting that you mention Harvey Fresh - I've avoided that since the time 18 months ago when they allowed some kind of chemical get into their milk and it tasted foul - God knows what the long term effect of this was.

They say if you strain the milk out of McDonald milk shakes you can run your car for a week

My daughter drinks a lot of milk and Woolworths own is the best tasting according to her.

My daughter has always been very fussy about her milk, and would never drink the supermarket stuff, so we always buy from the fruit shop. But I have bought Woolworths own brand a few times recently, and she hasn't mentioned anything, maybe age is tempering her tastes

It's nothing short of a national disgrace!

I implore K Rudd to spend millions on a "Milk Watch' website so consumer can get best possible value, only to cancel said website within days of its much heralded launch because he changed his mind.

I wonder who decided one day that they were thirsty so they would suck the milk out of a cows udder?

Adult humans, once weaned, are not designed to consume milk from another human let alone a cow, goat, sheep etc...

I've got no problems with chopping them up and eating them. They are part of the food chain. Milk, well that's another story...

Does your daughter wear plastic shoes?
