Default Pregnancy & Experience of Lead-Shielded Xrays?

Hi Guys

Well the happy news is that hubby & I are expecting a brother or sister for Jonah! My question is, when our medicals are requested how easy is it to get a Lead-Shielded xray done? I understand that DIMIA will accept these at the discretion of your CO. Has anybody been in a similar position? Do these type of xrays cost more than the regular ones?

Thanks in advance....

Hi Claire, congrats to you and the family. As far as I was aware if your pregnant you don't have to have an x ray done until after the birth? I might be wrong but a lot of mum's are unwilling to subject themselves to a lead shielded x ray. Have you tried HSA's website in Brisbane? They offer lots of advice online. haven't got the web site to hand but its Health Services Australia. Good luck annie

From what I understand, some doctors wil not xray pregnant women. My wife also got pregnat during the reuqest for medicals and so we put the whole thing on hold. It was quite easy adding our baby to the application.

And congratulations!!

if you get the meds done after the bubs is born, then it is easy to add baby to application, by all the family having a medical (incl baby who will also need a passport) after the birth.

If you have medical before baby is born, you need to validate your visas and for baby to be born in Oz (who will be born an Australian citizen). If born in UK after visa granted then a seperate application (and fee) is required.

We put the application on hold - took baby photo yesterday (for the passport), just need to get a new ink cartridge now to print it out.

btw congrats

i presume it will be the same as an ordinary x-ray, they'll just put a shield over your lower half to prevent radiation
when you visit a+e at hospital, it just says that you must inform the radiographer if you could pregnant, i don't think you need to postpone your application
