Finally broke through the elusive 1-63 barrier, how far will it run now ?
Here's hoping.

Probably about as long as the punters see the UK pound a safer bet than the OZ dollar during the current japanese situation.

Short term speculation, ask yourself this

who is going to benefit the most from Japan having to rebuild and possibly face the future without nuclear?

Australia - close neighbour and resource rich
Uk - erm, erm, erm has some financial wizards (robbers) in the City.

The recovering US dollar will affect the strength of the AUD, not a dream. Lets revisit this thread in a years time as only time will tell.

Start there and check out all the predictions in that thread about waiting for the pound to get back to its 'normal level'. ;)

It might take a while to read it all. :)

Not far I'm afraid. The G7 stepped in to stop the Yen's rise (which would have been an AUS$ decline).

Nothing to do with Australia's 'miracle' economy. BTW China are currently using lots of Oz iron ore to build huge numbers of massive ore carriers so they can ship ore from Africa and mines that they actually own. What will this do to the Oz miracle economy and the Oz$?

OMG another dreamer. Look the uk is apparently crap and Oz is booming. Thriving it stuck in the middle of the fastest growing nations on the planet and yeah guess what its still only worth 1.6 at the most. Do yourself a favour and invest as much spare cash back into the uk housing market as you can in the next 18 months. Quick.

My feeling is it will drop back to the 'normal' rate of 1.60ish soon enough. The current rate jump would seem to be largely as as a result of the FUD from the Japan crisis. How long it will last indeed is the very, very speculative question. Good luck gamblers ;-)
