Potentially Moving to Brisbane
457 depending I could be moving back to Australia (Brisbane). The role is based in 'Eight Mile Plains'. I'll be moving over on my own so I will get a hotel / lodge for the first few weeks and then rent somewhere so ideally looking for some advice on both.
Can anyone recommend any decent hotels / lodges nearby?
Is it easy to get to this location if I stay in the CBD?
And in terms of longer term rentals what areas should I look at? I would prefer to stay in the City but not sure what the traffic would be like. I've previously lived in Perth and Melbourne and I know the traffic can be a pain in the arse.
Thanks.

I'd stay in the city, there aren't too many good hotels near Eight Mile Plains - The Glen Hotel is okay for a beer and a meal, but I wouldn't want to stay there. It's about 25 minutes from the CBD to Eight Mile Plains straight down the M3 and you'll be going against peak hour traffic so all should be good. I'd look at renting somewhere around the city or inner city southern suburbs. Eight Mile Plains/Sunnybank is a predominantly Asian area with a large number of great Asian restaurants, but not much else in for a young single person to do.

The bus service from the CBD to Eight Mile Plains uses a dedicated busway and is not subject to traffic delays - find out how far your work is from the busway station and how to travel from one to the other.

I'll also be moving to Brisbane in the next few weeks. Hotels don't seem to be affordable for more than a few days ($200 a night) so I've been looking at flatmates.com.au to get somewhere for a month or so until I find a place I like.

I might be working in 8MP too, Im on the coast though and the drive is a bitch. Its kind of in a traffic black hole with no train stations in walking distance, but definately live in the CBD and commute down.

A flatshare thing might be fun if you're young but Serviced Apartments Brisbane, Apartments in Brisbane - Meriton are often really good value if you need a hotel.

I'm staying at the Meriton Adelaide St tonight and its costing me $85. I stay in Bris for a night out about once a month and almost always use the Meriton, tonight is State of Origin. This is an offer though, usually its anywhere from $110 to $150 which is cheap for Brisbane, even the YMCA is about $90 pn, the Meriton's a really nice, newly built tower.
But, I take your point on $200pw you won't find a hotel for that.

It's only a 15 minute drive off peak so contra flow peak should be quite quick.

Do you want to stay right in the city centre or just somewhere in the inner city ( < 5km) ?

Ideally out of the centre as long as I can get public transport in.
