Re: Post your new pool pics!
Regarding the tanks - we could have this put into the ground, or with a concrete pool add it to the end of the pool in concrete - or a plastic 5000ltr jobby down the side of the house. We already have a rainwater tank which feeds the toilets, laundry and a garden hose and it huge at just 3500ltrs so the pool tank would have been a bit of an eyesore!!!!
Any thoughts from anyone?

There is another thread on concrete vs fibreglass somewhere.
Same as before - the concrete guys tell one story, the fibreglass guys tell another. Fibreglass fades and is affected over time by chlorine (salt or otherwise). Ground movement is more noticeable UNLESS you put it on a concrete bed (it is done - house round corner from us just doing that now) - so likely to get cracks but this depends more on your land it you have rain and a lot of drying out in between. We are on a slope and have a retaining wall back fo the house to keep the next house going up behind us from sliding down into our garden etc. Concrete is the only way forward for us. Recommend talking to every pool builder around they will all give you bits of info which you can pool (sorry - pun!) together to make the decision on.

FANTASTIC looking pool Ned - bet you're chuffed with it eh! Can I ask - did you have to install a water tank given the size? We are about to go for a 12m x 3m (narrow rear garden) and were told that over a certain volume we need a water tank - with some fidgeting with depth and width etc we have come in just UNDER the required water volume for a water tank. we are in Port Macquarie NSW so would be interested to know what other councils, districts etc are saying about water use. Our pool builder says it will cost us about $40 off the domestic supply to fill it ourselves.

We had a concrete tank built separately from the pool and it is hidden under the Gazebo, 22,500 litres. We had to increase the height of the fence in the gazebo to comply with the pool fence regulations. Since building it we have had so much rain that the tank has always been full and we have never had to top up the pool.

Heyzeus!!!!! A 22500 litre tank! Holy smokes that's MASSIVE! We thought 5000 litres was BIG!!!! I'm pleased that Hastings council where we are isa bit more accomodating - although - they have calculated the evaporation on the total litres in the pool not the surface area- I'm no engineer but shouldn't the evaporation rate be by surface volume not total pool volume!!!! Anyway - looks like we have found a way round this!
I heard on the radio this morning that the Gold Coast City Council want to release us from water restrictions here as the Hinze dam is 100% full and they are worried about stresses during construction to raise the height. Now that the water restrictions are controlled from Brisbane they have refused, I am sure that cow Bligh has something to do with it.

When we looked at pools and discussed various methods of construction with the salesmen all the concrete pool guys had pictures of fibreglass pools that had popped out of the ground due to water logging of the surround. Then all the fibreglass boys had pictures of concrete pools with cracks. Because we are on the side of a hill we felt the concrete route was best. Also as we wanted tiles so had to have concrete.

Work started today on our 12m x 4m concrete pool. Estimated cost of $47,000 plus pavers and tiles. We'll update as the build progresses. So far its just a massive big hole in the ground which apparently will decrease in size as the concrete goes in.

All very nice.
Clearly I'm in the wrong job...
How can people justfiy spending - or even afford to spend - $30K to $40K on a swimming pool?

Loving these fancy pools. Our looks positively shit by comparison - I take some solace from the fact that it came with the house and is about 15 years old.
