Does anyone know the last date for posting sea freight parcels from Oz to the UK, to get them there in time for Christmas? I know it’s around the beginning of October but not too sure when.
Thanks

http://www.auspost.com.au/ (there's a page on this site which will tell you the estimated times and cost). Don't take their word for the shipping times though.

Thanks Ceri,
Better get shopping double quick!! Looks like last date is October 8th from the website, but I'll start posting as soon as they're ready.
Any ideas besides cuddly koalas, roos, etc.???

Loopy,
If you're shopping for kid, try t-shirts - they pack flat, aren't too heavy, and the kids love 'em. Get the touristy ones with Aussie pictures on! My sister's 3 proudly walk round wearing ones from their collection and pointing out that their Auntie is going to live there - sort of oneupmanship for them I think!
as for the time taken - I got stuff last year that only took 6 weeks, but like shipping possessions, it can vary as other stuff took 9 weeks.
And sorry if you already know this, but Oz also has an option called Economy Air mail - its slightly cheaper than ordinary air, and takes about a week longer. Worth bearing in mind.

I am sending my sister the Kath and Kim Series DVD
Nephew once got a Kangeroo Skin :scared:
Mostly I try and do photo albums or photos in nice frames (boring but my excuse is at least they get to see the kids )
Hope this thread gives me some more ideas

What about these nice little warmers from NZ. Perhaps these would make a good present for family in the UK this Xmas.

You're bound to find something in that shop. A lot of it is expensive.. but they also have small "nicks and knacks".. something to suit everyone's budget. If you haven't got a store near you.. they are also online, not sure if they have all their stock online though. http://www.australiangeographic.com/index.cfm
Photo albums.. I'm another one who does this. I found some brill albums this year.... talking ones!. It holds 24 pics and you can record a voice message for each photo... naff or what? That would be brilliant for you people with kids who want to send their photo's to granny..
I picked mine up in Jaycar.(bit pricey mind you at $60 for one... but it's a brilliant gift .. you can also order them online too
Here...
"Talking Photo Album
A photo album that talks!
You can record up to 10 seconds of your own voice on each page for a lifetime of memories. A small push switch on each page plays the recording. The perfect gift!
* Holds up to 24 (4" x 6") photos.
* Easy to use
* Black vinyl look with gold coloured corner protectors
* Measures 197(L) x 140(H) x 30mm(W)
* 2 x AAA batteries supplied

(yiKes .. I'm not advertising .. really)
.................................................. .....................
I recently sent one home to mum-in-law for her birthday. I even stuck a dead spider in it and part of an old snake skin I found in the garden..I'm not kidding. She just loves me
What I also do is to keep any interesting old newspaper articles relating to Brisbane and such to put into the albums.. I put in an article (along with the spider and snake skin) about shark attacks and one about snakes ... Do you think she'll come to visit me??? lol... I have a cunning plan to keep her away.
............................
Cane toad purses.. if you can find them in the shops. I haven't seen them in the shops here but you can get them online if you do a search. Totally gross. it's the whole cane toad.. legs and all.
DVD.... Russell Coite "all Aussie adventures".,.. but make sure your family back home has a multi region player as it's regional 4, it comes in video form too.
But for cheap presents for adults... I think just a plain little photo album is the best.. that can also be sent by letter post (the small flip ones).You can also add newspaper cuttings (or spiders ) to the album too.
For the really cheap,cheap presents.. next time you're in your supermarket .. look for those little canvas shopping bags for sale (coles and woolworths normally sell them).. they usually have pictures of koalas and such on the front, cost around $2 or $3 dollars. They can be used to wrap your photo album up.
For people who still write using "snail mail" .. send them some Aussie notepaper and envelopes. The post office has some pretty note book sets with koalas and such on it.. that's cheap.
cheers
