Positive answers
On reading through the forums, most responses to the applications are positive ones, has anyone ever been refused a permanent visa and if so what was the cause? Is anyone on here appealing/re-applying?

Hiya
I've read the forum for about a year, but haven't heard of someone coming online and saying they've been turned down. It would take a lot of guts.
However, I know someone who knows someone who has been turned down. Don't know what for though!
My guess would be that agents usually turn people down before they apply and that many people give up, if they realise they just can't do it.

Re: Positive answers
Since pre-application skill assessment was made compulsory in 1999, a lot of general skilled applications that would earlier have been refused by DIMIA never even get to the application stage.
Some applications do get refused. Some get refused because of an over-optimistic assessment of points, or if DIMIA don't believe the applicant's work experience is really in a skilled occupation. Changes to the MODL list have scuppered a few applications over the last 2 years or so.
A small number get refused for health, character, or child custody reasons.
Good migration agents generally will not take on a case where they do not believe it has any chance of success. And if a case is borderline then there is a duty to tell the client the truth and the risks.
