Default Portable air conditioners... do they work?

Not had any luck with the portable evaporative cooler, what about portable reverse cycle conditioners, do they work and how would you vent them. Does having to leave the window open negate any positive benefit of having one?

Thanks

You get a long adjustable piece of plastic with a hole in it for a pipe to fit in. This slots in where you've opened the window to fill the gap. The pipe is just like those you get for tumble driers.

They only work well if the room is small and they are very noisy. Better than sweating or freezing to death though!

Hi we were advised against them. They can't cope with the humidity of QLD, but will probably be ok in Tassie, we were told. We ended up buying a window air con unit, which works well.

From my experience they are a waste of time. Better off going for a proper unit.

My brother found out the same thing when he bought one for his 3yo daughter a few years ago. I wanted to buy it off him and he advised me not to spend the $1000 as it was underpowered. Ended up buying a 3hp reverse cycle wall mounted unit for just over $920.
