Port Douglas or Palm Cove?

Re: Port Douglas or Palm Cove?
Hi
After dithering around for too long, we now can't get in to the places we liked and were recommended!!! To be honest, most of the accommodation in PD looks pretty good, I'm going to try and get something just away from the main streets as don't want too much noise.
Going to book a reef trip in advance as well so we don't have to waste time once we are there. Can't wait, I've read so many good things about the area on here!!
Thanks for your help
Sam

Bay villas is a nice complex and on Mudlo Street about a 5-10 min stroll from Macrossen St. I lived in PD for 8 months and the 2 times I have been back I have stayed there. Its not flashy and good value for being so close.
2 things you have to do - go to On the Inlet, a seafood restaurant. Get there about half 4 for a good seat because at 5pm "George" the groper, a giant fish who lives under the restaurant comes to be fed. Its a great show where the staff feed him all the scraps. You can just go in for a drink if you dont want to eat.
Breakfast with the birds is great too at the Topical Rainforest Retreat. You can flag down buses along the main roads in PD without getting to a stop which is handy and they will take you right there.
Sunday Sesh in the Courthouse pub is not to be missed either. There is a market on Sun morning and the Courthouse is just across the road from there. Always a good band on and a great atmosphere.

Just to say thank you to all those who gave advice and suggestions.
We have just returned from our week in FNQ and WOW!!!!
We stayed at Rydges Sabaya in PD, which was perfectly ok for a week, we went out to the Low Isles and tried snorkelling for the first time, swam with turtles and a mutlitude of fish, went up the Skyrail to Kuranda and back down again on the train, drove up to Daintree, went on a river cruise and saw crocs, swam at Cape Trib, just beautiful............
Tried all sorts of fish, restuarants are fantastic in PD, drank too much wine, was stung in the face by a jelly fish and can't wait to return.
Just fab

Did you go to see George the Groper fish in 'On The Inlet'?
We have decided to move back up there. Hot as hell but Its hot here too(Sunny Coast) so may as well be in one of the most beautiful places in the world..

We missed George at the Inlet but we did have a fantastic meal (the midges also had a fantastic feast on us too despite spray!) I would love to live in that area, not sure how I would really cope with the heat and humidity but just loved the whole area and feel of the place, however OH chose Tassie as he doesn't like it too hot (ok on holiday but not for real life) so I can't see myself persuading him!
Good luck with your plans
