A Pork Pie worth of England (in Melbourne)
I've been living down under for 11 years, settled in Melbourne. And have been off the site for the last 5.
What brought me back was the discovery of an actually decent pork pie being made in Melbourne. Pork pie is one of those things that you eventually just accept you will never have again, like fish and chip shop scraps, or a sally lun, but finally . . . I've found one. My in-laws moved here about 8 years ago (just after my wife and I had our first child) and as ex-butchers and yorkshire folk they also confirmed - this is a really good pork pie. You can track it down at: HOME - Quince and Clove : Quince and Clove (I think they will also make to order, just in case somebody got there before you) |

Pork pies used to contain a layer of jelly between meat and crust. I think the jellied eels had given me a phobia for life:lol: But my parents love em. |

We do still like a "ploughmans" though and our local country pub serves a nice port pie with theirs. |

The pork pie is a funny beast
They are ok but I don't get why Brits go mad for them. What's with the jelly? Scotch eggs on the other hand........ |

We bought a pork pie and some 'English' bacon at the Kingsbury Drive Market in Melbourne. Very nice indeed - if a little pricey. You can also get excellent British Fish and Chips with scraps (and mushy peas/curry/gravy etc) at Fryer Tucks in Croydon. Well worth the 40 minute drive x

Re: A Pork Pie worth of England (in Melbourne)
Slightly off thread (sorry) I visited "Bents" garden centre near Warrington on Friday for the first time, its fantastic, while there I bought two pork pies (I was planning on doing a Ploughmans on Saturday) anyway we had the pies last night and they were excellent. We struggled to buy English bacon in Perth but we still used the Aussie type, except for the Chocolate and Crisps, we did not really miss that much (food wise) anything we did like to use ie HP sauce etc we could buy from Coles.
