Cool. Does that mean you can take out a heap of CC's in oz, run up massive bills and do a runner back to your country of origin where you have a good credit rating? The bad credit rating you have in oz for not paying that 100 grand back means nothing in the US, UK etc.. correct?

This thread question always makes me giggle! Not because it's not a legitimate question, but because peeps always get caught up in the morals of it!
I don't owe anything to anyone, but I can see how the concept of running up a huge debt in the UK and then running away might be tempting, esp, when it won't affect you ability to get CC's and a mortgage when you arrive in Aus...

I would just say one thing and that is how expensive it is to move to a different country what with removals costs, visa application fees (approx £2500?), deposits on rentals (if that is what you do) or a new mortgage, set up costs etc. If you have a poor credit rating now (I don't know if you still do or if it's just a general interest query) I would be concerned with how you would cover costs etc moving over. Unless you have a fantastically well-paid job to go to, the problem isn't going to go away because you move to Oz and of course if you have to return to the UK, then you presumably would still have to face the debt. Just a thought.

With leaving debt question it would be feasible to leave OZ with massive debt, just dont plan on returning to Australia in the next 7 years though, most banks now just right of the debt, thats why you pay high interest rates on CC's to cover all non-payers ,you can be traced back to the UK ,but it would be very hard if not impossible to enforce any legal proceedings as the debt occured in another country and therefore can only be enforced in that country.
