Anyone done this yet and got the $250 rebate? (end mid-May)
Trying to find a sparkie here that "knows" the new rules that hard wiring is no longer mandatory.

We switched just before the flippin rebate, however it did drop the power bill by about $50 per 90 days.

Yep I did it but from a new pool build so I had the lines put in ready. I'm sure I got $350 back from Ergon?

Anyway, there are two important things to know. Whilst true that the pump doesn't need to be hard wired and can be linked to the tariff by a regular power socket (preferably an all weather one) the actual power line feed will probably have to be a new one and dedicated just to that tariff with its own safety switch in the main fuse box.

Yes, cheers. Noticed Ergon are $350 and Origin $250! Going to take the 33 feed from the hot water tank as it is next to the pool pump (or should I say, trying to find a Sparkie to do it! First one didn't believe me that the T33 can be an ordinary socket! He wanted to hard wire.)

Can see no reason to hard wire. So long as you have a feed on T33 then you can run whatever you want off it. Sparkies really aren't the quickest of cats ;)

For sure there is no reason at all - but it was law until a few months back - so far I haven't found a sparkie who knows the law has changed (despite the Ergon and Origin web sites talking about hard-wiring is n longer mandatory.

This all sounds very interesting but my chlorinator has a built in time switch so if we connect it to a Tariff 33 outlet the time switch will keep losing time.

Easy to get around that.
Under the new regs - you have a simple plug
So you buy a timer plug! Not the $7.99 clunky ones but the $25 ones that are digital 7-day timers that INCLUDE a re-chargeable battery back up.
Quest for a knoweldgeable sparkie continues.....

You are "not allowed" but it's not illegal! They will never know!
Similarly, you are "not allowed" to plug in your washing machine or tumble drier onto this tariff.
The only thing to be wary of is the amount of amps on that circuit. Typically, it will be a 15 amp circuit so whatever you plug in shouldn't exceed 15 amps in total. Any one know how many amps a typical pool pump is? Spa pump? Tumble drier?
