Question Pool leaking, any ideas?

We had a massive amount of rain last Monday and I had to drain some from the pool as it was almost to the top. I've done it before when we've had rain and never had a problem. However, it now seems as though a small amount of water is trickling out of the waste pipe whenever the pump is running.

I've tried switching to waste for a bit and then switching back in case maybe something got stuck but it's still doing it. The level is getting lower and lower........

Anyone got any ideas? We're new to this pool lark so not sure why it's doing it..... and dont really want to call someone out if it's unecessary.

Thanks

sorry - I don't have any ideas...maybe call out a "pool technician" (if such a person exists).

If your filter is like ours there is a handle on top that turns 360 degrees. If it does not fall exactly back into place when you put it back to "filter" it lets a bit of water past just like you describe. Try opening it and letting it fall back hard into place rather than lowering it gently.

If you have a Sand filter (which I think is what Worzel is refering to) then you could maybe try turn it to backwash (or one of the other modes) after draining some more and then put it back into normal operating mode, it sounds as though the valve thats opening when you drain the pool isnt fully closing off (so maybe running it through other modes might free it up somehow or flipping between draining and something else might free up whatevers causing it to stick), if its a new(ish) pool then it should be covered by the warranty, id call whoever you bought it from and explain the problem and see what they suggest over the phone, if it dont fix it tell them you want them to fix it under the warranty and to get themselves out sharpish

Yes, that's what we have too... I did try that yesterday but I'll give it another go

Thanks for your suggestion Steve, it's a brand new pump so I guess some warranty, although not sure how we stand as the previous owner had it done... but hopefully it wont come to that!

If it's just started happening, after you used the pump to drain some water out, it's got to be to do with the valve(s) that you redirected the water with. Perhaps a bit of sand in the valve or something like that?

You have a worn or broken spider gasket, this is a web shaped rubber seal that seals each chamber of the multiport valve.
You may also have a worn valve handle and/or the plastic washer underneath it, sand gets under here and wears away at the handle over time when it is turned. This has the effect of not lifting the rotor (one half of the valve that tuns with the handle) enough so that it drags and wears the spider gasket.
Depending on which make/model you have it may be worth repairing the valve, many repairs are not successful and mean a valve replacement.
Let me know what filter you have I may be able to get you parts?
Cheers
Steve
