Poms v Aussies - The Express
Got the Express Newspaper today and in the middle pages there is a big spread about why we are better than the Ozzies and what they have pinched from us over the years, examples
1. Tyne Bridge v Sydney Bridge They claim that the Ozzies did a direct copy from the design of the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle when they were putting up the Sydney Bridge ( photo to demonstrate point as well ). 2. George Lazenby v Roger Moore How awful George was and how great Roger Moore was as our James Bond. 3. Hugh Grant v Russell Crowe As above just with the names changed! 4. The Queen v Dame Edna Everage As Above It goes on but the bottom section shows a picture of some English Football Players all standing in line obviously waiting for the game to start and a caption saying REAL MEN and then next to it is a picture of 5 Ozzie Blokes all in swimming costumes (very tight) all hugging each other and the caption saying Aussie Men, quite funny for the Express!!!:p ;) :) |
Well.....i'd rather sit and listen to Dame edna prattle on instead of the Lizzie for starters :)

"The Tyne River has always been central to the development of the city of Newcastle. For example, the river was the reason that the Romans first settled the area in 120AD, and centuries later the River was a significant factor in Newcastle's huge shipbuilding industry. Even today one of the most famous sights in Newcastle is the six bridges that span the Tyne River, all of which were officially opened by royalty. The most famous of the six bridges is Tyne Bridge, which was opened by King George V in 1928. At the time it was the largest single span bridge in the world, but then the record was broken by the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which opened in 1932. The two bridges have a remarkably similar design, and many people will claim that the Sydney Harbour Bridge was a copy of the design of the Tyne Bridge. But although the Tyne Bridge opened 4 years earlier than the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the designs for the latter were actually submitted before work began on the Tyne Bridge!" innit. |
Sorry just found this post and as I have just moved to Sydney from Newcastle Upon Tyne I felt I had to add that both bridges were designed by the same company from Teeside and I think they were called Dorman Long something like that.
Anyway Sydney's bridge is much bigger and has more lanes with a railway line going over it too. It was started first and completed after the Newcastle bridge. |
