Hello it is very confusing to start but you have to look at what type of visa you need first depending on your age, occupation and personal circumstances. I found the immi.gov website really useful but also rung a couple of immigration agents for the free advice. From there you can decide what suits your needs and if you would like to do it yourself or use an agent. If you have the time and patience do it yourself - but gather all your information first and then take one step at a time. It takes time so start now.

Good luck - its worth it. Pats

We were in exactly the same place as you 18months ago. WE looked on the internet at the agents on there but always found that they said you don't have enough points, if you pay us x£s we will tell you how to ge the points needed.

Our friend emigrated over here 3/4 years ago and he passed on his agents number. Infact we discovered that we had more than enough points to come over and we have been here since August.

Our agent was just a phone call away and he was one that did everything for us and we would gladly have paid doulbe as we received our visas 7 months after applying, actually got them valentine's day this year - roses will never live up to their name again.

Do you know anyone out here already - if so, why not give their agent a call? There will be loads on the internet (personly wouldn't use a totally internet based one). Phone as many as you can for free advice and if you feel comfortable with one then keep phoning to build up a raport with them. You will find one as it is a minefield out there and you will get through it!!!!

Its definately worth it!!!!!

We used an agent. 4 corners. They were very good. Cost us 4 grand though. But they didn't take any money of us unless we had enough points. We didn't do any paperwork (apart from TRA) they did all the hard stuff. So glad they did.

When we first approached our agent, we had application forms for him to fill in and post along with a cheque. We then had to go and see him. He hadn't banked our cheque (he showed us our cheque in our file!) until the day after our interview with him. They wanted to know how serious we were about this as they didn't want to take our money if he didn't think he could get the visa for us and that we weren't time wasters.

It does cost alot of money and we have paid thousands to get over here, but it is a small price to pay for a better way of life (we kept a check list of what we paid for everything - scary, wish we hadn't really)!. We did have a good life in the UK but no quality. Could never get the kids outside as it was always raining etc. OK the weather here in Perth hasn't been great, but it is Spring and boy will us newbies be wishing for it to be cooler in Jan/Feb! LOL

If you have the time spare, do it yourself and save a few k, if not get someone else in, but be aware you will need to provide them with a lot of the information to submit anyway. Good luck, there's tons of info and good folk on here to help, try using the search for specifics.

Welcome!

Like most enterprises in life, if you have a relatively simple thing to do it's easier - and cheaper - to do it yourself. If your case is complicated or very marginal you might be better going to an agent - but beware, there are sharks in this there pool!

Sniff around a while, and you'll get plenty of advice although not all of it might be kosher!

Hi Pom Girl

You can always tackle what you know, but moving and not having visited or being too familiar is more about ;

'How do I know what I don't know - and how valuable is that information now or in the future'

and the visa process is only one aspect, the most important is to ascertain if the move is right for you (migration advice) and your family, sided with the ability to achieve that aim !

Good luck

Kind regards

Chris
