Looks like Brisbane has some of the good parts that London has (technology etc) but with the better weather :) First cabbie I used in Brisbane was off his head on something (probably speed) but I shall not taint all with that brush. As per Sydney airport cabs he had no idea where he was going. Yep Sydney is not like the rest of Australia and I am glad of that one. It is a thriving city with horrible traffic and plenty of life. Lucky I did not come here to escape the rat race. |
Re: Pom in England
Ive been to Sydney 4 times & love it for a visit but I'd hate to live there. I do realise though that people do like the faster pace of life, my brother who lives in Moscow & likes the city life was over for a month, two weeks in Melbourne & two in Sydney & he found Melbourne a bit slow but loved Sydney so each to there own.

I was referring to the original quote that London has got a bus stop with its own digital display that gives the status of busses same as the ones up here by the sounds of it :) Not sure if Sydney has them yet, I didn't look at bus stops when I was last down there. I don't know what everyone is going on about with these power cuts, they seem to pass us by :D |

In the UK, often you have to get to the junction, and make a panic glance into the street to decide whether you should make a last minute turn.. Yeah it's got Mike's style. Anyhow dont want to feed the trolls.. No risk of that then. To those intellectual giants who think it's me - ask yourselves: i) if it's 'Mike's style' why hasn't he done it before? ii) as the literally-challenged Meg knows, I do know how to use apostrophes. Re-read hunkyharry's post. iii) I think, after '14 years' I would use the term Sydneysiders Yes, of course, it could all be a double bluff. But, given my introductory comments, I'd be wasting my time. Sorry to disillusion you, but it isn't me. Why pretend to be somebody else? I find it far more entertaining - and simpler - to just be me. Besides I have a reputation to live up/down to. It looks like you're going to have to face the awful truth - somebody else doesn't think Oz is the bees' knees. Shock! Horror! Probe! |

Re: Pom in England
It struck me whilst I was in Sydney how much it reminded me of London. It also has the same fast pace as London. Which some people really enjoy, but isn't for me. :)

Re: Pom in England
have to say Mike - the jury is out on this one. You may be right.
By style I meant style of ''analysis, not modus operandi (sic). Some of the flavour of your past posts is in there - Living in Australia is a bit like living in a remote country town in Britain - boring and isolated but you can buy a bigger house. Australia is good for unskilled and semi skilled labour as they get paid more than their counterparts in England. However for Professionals and good Tradespeople, Australia does not represent an increase in the standard of living. Anyone could be clever enough to pull it off - and well done to them.. BM |
