Poll: Satisfactory Movers?

There are only a limited no. of lines available in one of these polls, so this one is split into TWO polls.

If you have actually USED a mover, a lot of forum members are very interested in your experiences.

Please use THIS poll to say if your mover was basically satisfactory, the OTHER one if he was basically unsatisfactory.

Feel free to add comments nd thanks for your input!

We just had all our stuff delivered by Allied Pickfords - Midlands UK to Adelaide.
Not only where they the best quote, they were amazingly helpful and all our belongings arrived within 2 months, nothing broken, not even the boxes were dented! I would thoroughly recommend them! They were so good I wish I had saved my £'s and not taken out insurance on my breakable goods!!!

We are using Allied Pickfords, our stuff is in transit as we 'speak', we won't know till we get to the other end how they did, but this end they were great, polite, professional and very very helpful!

Hi Rog,

We're using PSS and so far so good. See my thread I've just posted:

http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...hreadid=245965

We'll be arriving in Perth on the 1st of September and our container arrives the following day. It should clear within 2 weeks so we'll let you know how it all went.

I have to say they've been excellent with all our queries and our little hiccup.

I've used Seven Seas. Have found their customer service centre in the UK to be excellent. I have been given a date of 23rd August for my stuff to arrive, so once it gets through customs I'll let you know the full story :)

I know you probably mean packer to oz, but I'll share too that we used "Sante fe " from Singapore and "Stirling" unpacked us here in uk all excellent, very helpful.:)
I haven't heard of anyone using Stirling this end -they were good and I'd use them again.

You missed John Mason off your Poll Rog !!! We used them and found them to be the best. We have moved several times and had breakages with different companies. Moved twice with John Mason now and would not use another firm again now. :)

Sorry! but I asked for names of companies people had dealt with to construct the poll and they were not mentioned. There are only a certain number of options available, too

Why was Allfreight not included, speak to any body who has shipped or moved with them, they will tell how good this company is.

Well being a newbie, we would like to welcome you into the fold, but just posting on shipping firms makes that a bit tricky! What visa are you on? Are you a family or an individual? I know, I'm a nosey git, but on here we like to know who we are talking to, that way we are more likely to trust your recommendation!

Pollyana Oct 28th 2004 2:38 am

Re: Poll: Satisfactory Movers?

By the way I have done a seach, thanks, and there don't seem to be an awful lot of recommendations for using Allfreight between the UK and Aus. A few for the US, and a couple of Aus enquries, but no-one except you seems to have used them to ship to here (though i will stand corrected when several long standing members get up and vouch for them!! :D )

We're expecting our shipment in tomorrow, on the Contship Aurora.

BTW you can usually follow progress - if you know the boat, obviously - by going to the shipping line's website for the itinerary and then the port authority's sites enroute for arrival/departure info. We even found the ship's phone no. on the Melbourne port corporation's site!

Re: Poll: Satisfactory Movers?

Am currently helping a relative deal with
Atlantic International Movers
www.atlanticinternationalmovers.com
and having serious problems with their communications with their
affiliate "approved" agents in the destination country.
It seems the contract conditions (full unpacking and placing of items
at the destination) were not passed on to the local agents
who are just leaving boxes half-unpacked.
Also their 24 hour contact number gives no answer.
Once I get through to them to tellthem to rectify
the situation, and then I may report how they handle this problem.

The poll has me confused, I selected Other and clicked Vote now
but saw no way to enter a rating. Are there voting instructions
somewhere?

Re: Poll: Satisfactory Movers?

No. I set the poll up a long time ago and since there is only a limited no. of lines you can set up I did 2 polls - one for "goodies" and one for "baddies". Not very satisfactory but it did give some indication as to who liked/disliked some of the movers used.

Do not touch Anglo Pacific unless you want your furniture trashed and an unsatisfactory settlement. They are absolute C**P. I hope this puts someone off using them as I would be delighted to know that they have lost business.

I see I misread the instructions for the satisfactory movers poll, and had voted for Other, thinking I would be then be given a choice of specifying good or bad. I've rectified that by voting for Other in the unsatisfactory poll :D .

Member ABCDiamond - http://britishexpats.com/forum/member.php?u=18491 has just posted a link from the Unsatisfactory poll to this one, so for completeness here are links to both polls:

Poll: Unsatisfactory Movers

Further to my relative's disappointing experience, it seems the UK company did hand-over to another UK company which then handed off to a freight forwarding agent in the destination country. This agent insists he was not told of any unpacking to be done, and was only going to deliver the boxes themselves.

This has still to be resolved, but meanwhile I've thought of some principles that I should have advised my relative to follow before instructing the movers.
  1. retain 20-30% of the agreed price until removal is satisfactorily completed
  2. get written (not verbal) confirmation of who final moving agent will be
  3. get written agreement that time is allowed to check the inventory
  4. test the mover's contact numbers work at night, weekends, public holidays
  5. refuse moving-out or moving-in dates that preceed a holiday

Re: Poll: Satisfactory Movers?

I used http://www.shipit.co.uk/ aka 1st Move international.

I think they were well priced and charged per m3 (or part of) and shrink wrap your gear to a pallet (I shipped about 3m3 so good for ppl who arent shipping a whole house of furniture)

I packed myself, they picked it up for me and did some additional wrapping and dismantling of a table etc which was good of them). My stuff arrived on the day they said it would. I was contacted 2-3 days beforehand like they said i would be. I had to chase them a couple of times but no big deal, ie they give you a rebate on buying boxes which I had to chase them for the money, but the deposited it into my account as soon as I mentioned it.

I sorted the delivery myself here in Brisbane, a company next door to them did it for $65! Well cheap!

Let me add, there is a bit of work to do this side, and extra costs too, such as landing fee's custom fee's. I think it was about $400 and the delivery cost.

I wonder what ppl pay for the Brisbane delivery costs if they get the all in package. I think I did well for all in GBP1100 from Edinburgh to Brisbane door to door inc. insurance.

My only wish was I shopped around on ins. I paid 3% which was about GBP300 and it doesnt cover much as I packed my owb stuff (therefore only covered for loss) I hear you can get it for 1.5% so its worth checking.

Re: Poll: Satisfactory Movers?

Used PSS - 11 weeks from London to Canberra. 63 boxes/packages of various sizes - nothing damaged.

They used Chess Hanleys in Oz to ship our stuff to Canberra and apart from having to tell the guys at this end it was agreed our bed, sofabed and dining table would be re-assembled (which they did once it was explained), the whole thing went without a hitch. They unpacked what we asked - would have been a nightmare to unpack everything in one go. Some of our packages were marked 'Q' for quarantine and were inspected - these were wood and shoes.

Our worst fears were realised when they told us delivery was due on the same day as our baby - but she didn't pop out for another 5 days. Did need a bit of chasing up on this end, partly due to us being anxious to get set up before the baby.

Overall: Good - but ship arrived Sydney 7th Oct, stuff arrived Canberra 27th. Some out of their control due to customs/quarantine.

Recommend? Yes.

Big.
