Default Police Speed Radar Detectors

Any speed merchants in NSW (and other states where radar detection equipment is unlawful) may well be interested in this article in today's Herald:

Police grapple with defective detectors

lol - love the way that article's written.

Radar detectors are banned in NSW - but the Beltronics STI Driver and the Escort Passport 9500ci are invisible to detector detectors. Oh and while they are illegal in NSW and while we would never condone breaking the law, you might like to know that they're freely available in WA at shops such as radars.com.au

Yup, that tickled me too. Not sure if it's responsible journalism, but I still liked it...

I expect that there is no way to detect a radar detector...It is a receiving device rather than a transmitting device, therefore there is nothing to detect.

It appears that the police device is actually detecting radar/laser jammers...which do transmit signals to confuse the radar.

Its probably like the old UK TV Detector Vans...that could tell if you had a TV and even what channel you were watching..a complete load of government rubbish and they were just dummy vans that they drove around the streets to worry people.

Speed doesn't kill. It's idiotic drivers who do not have the training nor the car. A properly trained driver in a proper car can drive at 200KPH and not crash. I don't claim to be. Radars are a tax on drivers, nothing more. It would be better to institute a very thorough defensive/offensive driver's course instead.

By the way, instead of risking being fined for using a radar detector, why don't you use a website instead? Police always stay in the same spot. Look out for patches where grass is missing that show tire marks, for example. For some countries, there are web sites with databases of every speed trap in the country.

There's only one full time traffic cop around these parts - and he's a customer of mine.

Great article. I have the Beltronics STI. It works. Anything that beats the revenue collectors (aka Police) should be encouraged in my book.

I was amazed when we first arrived to hear the radio station announcing where the police radars were on our roads. Does that happen in all states or just here in Qld?

After all the use of radar is for 'road safety'. When the radio stations first started announcing the radar locations the plods went around for a 'chat' and threatened to do all sorts of nasty things to the announcers.

That just reinforced the radar=revenue perception within the public. The police relented under public pressure.

Your right, but in the majority of cases its not the speed that kills "Its the sudden stop"
