Hi all,

Can anyone help with this one?

We applied for what we thought were police certificates through our local police, fee was £10.00.

Got a letter back today from National Identification Service , NSY, quoting S21. Data Protection Act 1984, stating no information held on PNC etc etc.
But on the bottom of the letter it states,
"This document does not constitute a Certificate of good character"
hmmm, have I got the wrong thing here? I did state it was for immigration purposes when I asked for the forms. Anyone advise on this do I need to try again or is this what DIMA require?

The other thing is I wrote to Aus House asking for the medical and x-ray forms about 4/5 weeks ago and still havent received anything I did include a SAE, is this normal or should I chase them up,(somthing I'm wary of doing).

Ta for any help,

Chris.

Chris,

I sent a letter to Aus House - I didn't enclose an SAE, and they replied within the
week with photocopies of the forms (they have run out of the actual forms).

Haven't had the police check back yet, but they have sent a letter saying that we
could expect a response within 40 days of the enquiry. Still waiting for that. I
can't remember which section I ticked on the form - but it was the basic enquiry
about convictions etc...

Hope that helps...

Sophie

P.S. can you help me with something? . I am about to send off the application to
Aus House for the visa, and not sure whether I need to get all my degree
certficates etc certified again - or do I just send photocopies? The application
from is somewhat ambiguous...

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I think maybe I'll contact Australia House again re the medical forms.

With regards to your query we sent the Skills Assessment along with certified photocopies of everything they asked for on the application form, if that makes sense.

I think that we have got the right police form, just odd that it states that on the bottom of the form.

Hi Chris

We didn't keep copies of our police certs ( a bit stupid!!!) but I'm sure they said
the same as yours, if you sent of the appropiate form from DIMA and thats what came
back I'm sure its OK

cheers,

kate

Hi Sophie, If you have had your skills successfully assessed, DIMA require the same
info you sent to the assessing body. These all need to be certified copies of the
originals. Cheers Carol

Chris,

This is correct. Basically what you have asked for and got is evidence that you
do not have a criminal record. But you can't use the letter as a certificate of
good character, for example, if you were applying for a job it would not
constitute a reference. But fear not, as has been said elsewhere the letter is
all that DIMA require.

Chris, You've got the right form from the police. Confusing isn't it.

Hang in there

Nigel

Police in the UK will not issue a "certificate of good character". I assume that the
reason is that they are only qualified to comment on your criminal record or lack of
it. My understanding is that this is acceptable to DIMA.
