Police Checks Germany

I will have to get a police check from Germany since I lived there for 2yrs whilst in the Army. Can anyone please advise me as to the following:-

1) At what point in the application process should apply, as I assume it may take even longer than the British checks to come through.

2) How I can find out what the fee will be - do I write in advance just asking this, bearing in mind that my German is non-existant.

3) Where I go to get a translation of the report & does anyone have any idea as to the cost of this.

Thank you in advance for any ideas.

Re: Police Checks Germany

Hi Paula, The German embassy is your best bet. They can provide the form you need and
further information.

To apply for a German police certificate, fill in the form from their website, take
it to a local solicitor to have the signature certified and send it off the the
"Bundeszentralregister" in Germany. The fee is, I believe, €15 - they don't take
credit cards, so you will have to transfer the fee into their bank account (I suggest
you transfer an extra €5 or so to cover bank charges at the German end... I didn't,
and ended up having to transfer the missing few € and had to pay a second lot of
transfer charges from my bank.

The certificate you get back is in German and you will need to have it translated.
Again, check with the embassy, the German embassy in London keeps a list of certified
translators and can put you in touch with the right person.

The are very efficient (it's German bureacracy after all!) - I had my police checks
back from Germany and translated and certified long before my UK checks came back.

Hope this helps, Martina
