We are a family of 4, ages 38, 36 and two boys 9 & 6. We are seriously looking into applying for a visa.
My husband is a BT engineer (now Open Reach) Have others got skilled visas as a communication linesperson?
Is the work that different than it is over here?
Which area is he best looking for work/to settle in?
I have NNEB qualification and have 13yrs experience as a teaching assistant working in a special school.
What are the chances of me continuing in my line of work?
I know this will be a mixed reply but should we visit before we sell up and move out?

I am keen on Queensland but it will depend on the areas that have the best work prospects - for my husband at least!
We are real keen, but getting our heads sorted. We hope to sort out migration agent in the next week or two. But like most, our money is caught up in our property.
I see that you are new to this site where do you hope to go?

Telstra is the BT of OZ - I'm sure they are always on the lookout for skilled workers, the only problem may be with getting quals recognised and it does depend on what's on the skills list at the time you apply. Have a look at www.immi.gov.au under skilled visas.

Any work in the schools will need quals, lots of parents help out but on a volountary basis.

hi, i think your best bet is to talk to a migration agent. they can answer all those types of questions and many more besides. then if both you and they are happy you can engage them to sort your tra (trade assessment) and visa. i know many people do their own paperwork but if you have the money (not that expensive in the grand scheme of things) use an agent as it is soooooo much quicker and nearly stress free. we have used an outfit from surfers paradise in QLD we met at an expo at sandown park racecouse expo. they are great i have passed my tra (electrician) in no time at all because they tel you exactly what is needed. their website is: www.thisisaustralia.com
