Default Plasma TV's - all you gadget men out there!

We have found a real bargain price for a 42 inch plasma tv. Samsung £1999 pounds. Hubby has dreamt about one for ages and we may relent and spend a bit of our profits on one to take with us.

I have searched lots of the sites out there and they are about £3500 equivalent price in Aus, so it could be a good idea to buy over here.

The question is - will it work out there? and what do I have to ask the assistant about to check if it's compatable.

Thumbs down

It MIGHT work in Oz, depending on it's spec. Best to check with the manufacturer at that price!

I am a little leery on the life expectancy on Plasmas, and a dealer near me says they should last ten years.....

i hate to sound like a parrot, but i heard that too and was also a little concerned. However after 10 years i'd be wanting to get something new.... hmmm wonder how long it will be before holographic TV comes out?

Hey Tina,

Send these guys a quick email with your model of Samsung - they may be able to beat the price, and put it aside for you; save shipping and guaranteed to work.

I have heard that UK TV's do not pick up the sound in OZ.

Plasma has a finite life in hours. If you have a family of TV addicts you may only get a few years life out of it.

Flatron/trinitron TV's have a better life and an extraordianary picture.

I'd also make sure that it is packed really well, they seem a bit delicate to me. If I had one, I'd take it.

From what I saw of it Aussie tv is bloody crap so taking a plasma screen tv would be like taking the latest top of the range sound system to play your 78rpm records on.
Unless its multi band multi region it won't work without a new sound board fitted anyway. Save your cash and blow it on something out there.

Aussie TV is crap. All those programs get in the way of the constant ads.
