Question Places to visit, places to avoid !

Hello,
If we get our PR visa, we are planing to travel around Australia first for a couple of months before deciding on where we want to set up home, has any one got any advice on where the best bits and the worst bits are? Where shall we visit and where we should avoid?
We have got 2 kids age 7 and 3, and we are hoping to settle in west Australia, but as we have never been before we would grateful for any inside information on what its really like!!

Seems Carrianne and CrunchieFrog are suggesting you tour nice places they have been. They are right - those places are great for a visit - but I imagine the main part of your tour is also to find a place where you can be profitable employed. As is said "there's mooney in mook" and vice versa. Everyone wants to live in a nice place - hence lots of competition - and often poor pay.

Have a great time. I suggest you make it a point to meet and talk to people in your line of work - might even result in the job you seek.

Should add - if you have serious money, be aware that it attracts flies - be careful about "business opportunities".

there are fantastic places to go to on the east coast but i found the west coast more relaxing and less crowded. The east coast is full of english backpackers filling every national park and beach to the death, i found a lot of the east coast like the costa brava in spain, surfers paradies is more like builders paradise. whitsundays are nice but too many people
fraser island is an experience not too miss though
the great ocean road from melbourne to adelaide is loveley as are the grampians a short drive up from the great ocean road, fantastic scenaery and some scary views, port fairy nice little place
a fantastic little town called robe in south australia was one of my favourite places in oz

on the west coast i suggest

cape le grand national park near esperance, white beaches turquoise water with no-one on them
albany - nice place
margaret river and augusta, good surf
the gloucester tree, good climb that one (61metres) highest fire lookout tree in the world
kings park in perth is nice
mudarin weir and kalamunda near perth has some of the biblumen track from there has great walks
north of perth you must see
monkey mia (although commercialised for the west coast)
shark bay
karijini national park
the kimberleys
exmouth and the national park near there, fantastic reef snorkelling just off the beach on the ningaloo reef, more diverse and definitely more accessible than the great barrier reef, swim off the beach and over the coral

hope this helps a little but then these were only my experiences
