Default places to take kids on holiday in sydney

Hi,
we are looking at spending a few days in Sydney at Easter and wondered if anyone could advise where best to go with three kids under 8. Thanks for any advice.

Not sure you'll have enough time for these!

see google for more details:
  • Royal Easter Show at the Olympic Park
  • Taronga Zoo
  • Circular Quay / Opera House / Harbour Bridge
  • Luna Park
  • Sydney Harbour cruise or ferry to Manly beach
  • Oceanworld Manly
  • Sydney Wildlife World / Sydney Aquarium / Tumbalong Park at Darling Harbour (fireworks every Saturday from 8.30 pm)
  • Powerhouse Museum (science, engineering stuff)
  • Australian Museum (dinosaurs, animals, indigenous stuff)
  • Royal Botanic Gardens / Hyde Park
  • Westfield CBD
  • Monorail

Don't go to Bondi as sometimes there are topless sunbathers / swimmers!

We have a 9 year old and she enjoyed Tumbalong (sp) Park on our way and from the Aquarium (which we all enjoyed!)

We were only in city for 3 days over Christmas. loads to do and see. Also had a fabulous time at the Zoo. Those animals have an envious view of the city!

Have fun

Also as a family you can explore Sydney and nearby regions on buses, trains, ferries and light rail for just $2.50 per person. http://www.131500.com.au/tickets/explore

If you need transpo info just call 131500 or use the trip planner on http://www.131500.info

taronga zoo is very expensive compared to symbio wildlife park but you need a car to get to the wild life park and taronga does have a fantastic view

Tumbalong park is great for kids and they can go in the harbourside shopping area and watch sweets being made.

manley is good it depends on the weather really

Thanks, this has been very helpful. I like the idea of Bondi but not sure if it's appropriate!
Can I now ask if you can advise on where best to stay that is within easy driving distance to some of these places, I.e 30 mins or so. Thanks

you can take the ferry to taronga zoo

you can save by combining zoo pass and ferry

look at the Sydney novotel or holiday inn for central hotels or the crown on Elizabeth street

they may be a bit expensive though so do a search

no birds is good value for car hire

Forget driving in Sydney it's a nightmare and you will be charged a fortune to park the car (assuming you can find a car park). Use public transport the trip to Manly by ferry is awesome. Day pass costs $20 per person for unlimited travel on bus, ferries and trains, except on Sunday when families can get special deal of $2.50 per person.

Think someone is pulling your leg. It's the first time I've ever heard of anyone wary of going to Bondi.

Some people at Bondi might well be scantily clothed - but that's because it's a beach.

There are always countless kids on it - all having fun. It's not a red-light district and there's no reason at all why you wouldn't take kids there.

LoL yes I think it's relatively safe for kids. But if you're running out of time I think you may consider Manly instead of Bondi.

I agree. Sydney public transport is not perfect but it's reasonably desirable.

Hi, I agree Taronga is fairly expensive but it's a great day out, we have an annual pass and always have a great time when we go with our children, we recently saw the bird show for the first time and were very impressed.
You could balance Taronga with a free visit to the new Darling Quarter in Darling Harbour - there's a massive free playground with great water features (take swimmers on a warm day). The only downside is that the playground gets very busy so try and plan your visit early morning \ late afternoon if you can. Lots of child-friendly restaurants in this area too.
The Botanic Gardens are good for a run about and have great views of the harbour and Opera House.
The ferry from Circular Quay to Watsons Bay is also a favourite of ours - good fish and chips and a park \ playground at Watsons Bay too.
I don't think you'll have any problem filling your time!
Have a great stay!
