Phoning OZ the cheapest way.....
Get a Onetel phone account. Saved us loads of dosh in the past.

from 4p a min to Aus, compared to nearly a pound with BT.
Should this be a sticky, mod?

Oh, and fear not, they've nothing to do with the collapsed OneTel in Oz, they were taken over by Centrica when the parent company was on the verge of collapse.
You can also use OneTel from virtually any phone in the world by getting a Home and Away card - calls go onto your OneTel bill in the UK.

Yep, been using OneTel for over 5 years now - it isn't from 4p it's 4p p.m 24/7/365. We have also made OneTel our provider for UK calls saving a lot compared to directing through BT. We signed a form which was returned to BT and now we don't have to dial a prefix, all calls go through OneTel.

no catch ozt, thats what we thought before we started using them.
here is a cut n paste of their FAQ
Telediscount: Easy to use!
You do not need to subscribe to our service as you simply have to dial one of our access numbers to connect to our system before making an international call. All you pay for is the cost of calling our access numbers, as we run this service using the revenue the numbers generate. Your normal telephone provider will charge you for calling our access numbers which will appear on your normal phone bill. You will not receive any bill from us.
So for example, if you make a 5 minute call to South Africa from a BT phone via access number 0871 7 540 540 which is charged at 6p/min; Next time you get your BT bill you will see a call to our 0871 7 540 540 number, a duration of 5 minutes and a total charge of 5 min x 6p = 30p. Furthermore, before each call, the operator will confirm the current call charge per minute so you will know exactly what the call is going to cost, no unpleasant surprises!
The price stated behind every access number is all-inclusive (including VAT). There are no further subscription or connection costs for the international call.
Please be aware that calls from mobile phones may be surcharged, click for more info.
If you still have any doubts how the service works or any questions, please click here to go to the Frequently Asked Questions.

We allways buy a 'Mad 4 minutes' PHONE CARD . You can call from almost any where and for £5.00 you get 125 minutes which we find brilliant and never clock up on our house phone bill. there is only a very small connection which is about 3p.

Re: Phoning OZ the cheapest way.....
Here are the best, for my knowledge, prices and the best service – www.topup2call.co.uk.
Calls abroad from UK start from 1p per min.
You can call from landline and from mobile as well. What you have to do: text the message BONUS to the number 83006. This text will cost you £3 and they will credit your phone with £3 of call credit.
Or: simply dial 0901 366 4310 from a BT phone to gain a £1 credit. During the call choose the phone you want the £1 to be transferred to. It can be ANY phone - landline or mobile. You can - for example - charge up your mobile using your home or office phone. When topping up via the text message method only the mobile phone from which the text message is sent can be topped up.
Or you can dial from your landline using access numbers 0870 794 4520 (wkdays, national rate) and 0844 570 4520 (wkend 5p).

We use Telewest for our phone - does anyone else get a good deal use a card with them for Aussie calls? I fear a rip-off if i try experimenting.
(PS, read Simone's post about Saga on another thread.)

Swiftel are going to start trialling an IP telephony service. No details on charges yet but potentially interesting.
