Fuel tends to be cheaper in WA and we don't get these 'cheap' fuel days like in the rest of the country as there is no need to. Fuelwatch kind of prevents it.

ULP can be got for 119.9 tomorrow in Perth.

Except I bought exactly the same item for £9.95 in Robert Dyas in the UK ($16.50 at current exchange rates).

The basic con here is is lack of knowledge, lack of alternative and lack of change due to exchange rates fluctuations. Typical aussies don't know how much they are being ripped off, don't have a working marketplace to turn to for better prices, and haven't taken notice of the exchange rate movements.

For those that do, its almost always better to import from the UK or elsewhere, and avoid the aussie shops for any purchase you can.

Not sure how the Salter UK RRP compares to Salter Aus RRP.

It used to be cheaper in QLD, than it was in WA, so most people would have voted against Fuel watch, bringing the price up. However, with things having changed, it may be a different matter if they asked now.

I've been importing stuff from the UK since I got here. Some things are usually way cheaper, including postage. Funny too that they tend to get here faster than ordering stuff online from Australian web sites.

No wonder the government is trying to put an internet filter in place.

That is one advantage, knowing what the price will be in advance.

This one http://catalogues.harrisscarfe.com.a...=&pageview=one which I only noticed because I've got one and its exactly the same.

Basically, when you compare like for like 99% of goods are more expensive in Aus than the UK. Playing with average salary etc. doesn't dodge the reality that often its cheaper to import an item than it is to buy in the shop down the road. That's particularly true if you are looking at some item which is small in size, yet expensive.

99% is exaggerating.

We have just looked at 3 Salter scales, one is about the same price, one may be cheaper in the UK, and one is cheaper in Australia.

As I said before "some things are better, some are worse, some are the same"

Salter 136 Kitchen Scale Price: £17.69

That may change again when the £ recovers.

But so far, I have found that only books are really worthwhile as a general item for that.

If you have google as your homepage you can get different tools on it - one is called Motormouth Petrol Price Tracker. You just put in your postcode and it tells you the cheapest local petrol.

But not Caltex for some reason. Well not on mine and my nearest Caltex is very often the cheapest.
