Default Petrol / Diesel

What's the difference in price between petrol and diesel in Australia or Queensland in particular?

Also do petrol or diesel cars tend to hold their value better?

Diesel is slightly more expensive but recently was a bit cheaper. B20 bio-diesel blend is 4-5c a litre cheaper than normal diesel and is the fuel I always buy.

Diesel cars hold their value well.

I will never buy a petrol car again - unless it's a sports car.

Thanks, looks like diesel may be the best option.

All cars hold their value well in Australia - both petrol and diesel. Fuel makes little, if any, difference. 2nd hand cars in Australia tend to be quite a lot more expensive than most people expect when they arrive!

Personally, I would go petrol.

We had a 1.4 clio petrol auto that averaged 7.3 l/100kmh and was like a slug performance wise.

We now have a 2.0 turbo diesel vw jetta auto that averages 5.3 l/100kmh and goes like sh1t of a shovel.

you decide.

Today being the high point of the weekly petrol price cycle - a bit later this week petrol is likely to be 7c cheaper than diesel.

If you look at the quality of both, here in oz we are well behind other countries with the octane in petrol and the quality of diesel is less than other countries, so with the extra cost to buy diesel i would have petrol, i have owned both types here and sold my land cruiser when the petrol giants suddenly put prices of diesel up to $1.75p/l a year or two ago.

LPG for me. I can fill the tank with $20 and it lasts for just under 300km.

I get virtually the same figures for B20 bio-diesel in my VW Jetta.

Hyundai i30 Diesel. 1600 cc. 4.8/100 ks on a run. At worst 5.5 with the aircon on full belt. Top speed 230 kph! And I've had 210 on a test track with more pedal travel to go. If the quality of fuel improves (I'm told that it will, slowly) then better mpg will follow.

Someone did a test drive from Darwin to Adelaide and returned 3.9/100

Heavier engine over driving wheels at front gives very good handling.

Lots of rear leg room too.

No, I don't work for Hyundai.

Obviously the fuel consumption goes up a bit at 210 kph.

Don't get caught now! I'd have a VW if I could afford it. Love the Passat Estate.

But my car is 13 years old, with twice the engine capacity and more than 350,000 kms on the clock. So on balance, I think I'm doing rather well.
