Pet Immigration to Australia
Hello
I've just registered here. What a great source of informations!! My husband, baby son and I are moving to the Mornington Peninsula, VIC, later this year and plan to keep our family together by bringing our two cats. Can anyone give me any advice on how best to do this? I've taken them to the vet today who suggested this might be a really good place to ask!
Really looking forward to hearing from people who've done it before me!
Kind regards
Kate

Im just looking into sorting our cat.... who has a typical cat name! I wish she'd been called a proper name like yours! A cat called Derek is brilliant.
Have you had passports done in case you have to come back?

Hi there,
We shipped our little dog over with us in Jan this year and I would strongly recommend that you find a pet export company that you are happy with and they will be able to guide you through everything.
We used Golden Arrow, they may be one of the most expensive companies out there, but they are as far as I am concerned the best, they are always willing to talk to you and put me at ease the moment I spoke to them.
They did all our paper work for us as I wanted to make sure it was done right. I would also recommend that you get a pet passport before you go in case you need to come home, other wise you will need to find a vet that can do the rabbies jabs where you settle and pay for the blood tests to be done (after the blood tests there is a 6 month waiting time before they can go back).
With a pet passport they could go back straight away - or the other option is 6 months quarantine in the UK
I am pretty sure that everything we had to do for our dog is the same for cats so if you have any further questions please do feel free to drop me a line
Good luck
Chelly
