Perth Vs Sydney

Hi ,

i know this is a pretty tough question to answer but im torn between the 2,

i am planning on emmigrating to Oz within the year and cannot make my mind up where i would rather live,

i have been to sydney before and love the hustle and bustle but also been able to get away from it in the suburbs,

im a 21yr old mechanic who like nights out/partying, love the beach and sport and stuff,

does any one have any advise on what they think might best suit me ?

thanks in advance

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

I'm double(ish!) your age but, having lived in Perth and now just moved to Sydney I'd say the lifestyle for a young person is probably better here.
Perth is a great place, I love it, and it's really good for families with young kids but I think there's more going on here for younger people ( if you like the city buzz) and it's still easy enough to 'get away from it all' at weekends. We've only been here a couple of weeks but have already been up to the Central Coast and to Pittwater, and we don't have a car yet!

The one downside is how expensive it is. I haven't been shopping in Perth for a while, but one of my new friends has just moved from Brisbane and she says it's much more expensive here. You need to be earning a decent amount to be able to live, I think.

It probably depends on what's most important to you; nightlife or sport. To be fair I didn't live in Perth when I was 21. I had 3 young kids so nightlife wasn't really an issue!! I have heard it's quite limited but, again that probably depends on your expectations. The sport is great though!

I have to say, I really love Sydney and I already feel very at home here, but it's different for everybody.

The good thing is, you're 21 and if you move and decide it's the wrong place you can move again!

Good luck

hi, i am living in sydney and i love it, loads of nightlife and loads to do.

I travelled oz when i was 21, we flew in to perth and the very next day we got a camper van (so thats how much we liked perth, just to quiet for us!)and drove down to adelaide and then on to sydney. We ended up living in sydney for 6 months and loved every minute.

i am 26 and a mum now but we still decided on sydney, we will be living in a lovely area just outside of sydney called Five dock (we are right in the city at the moment and i love the hussle and bussle and noise)

I personally think you would prefer sydney, but its a personnel thing, your young so can move if you dont like it..lol

Sydney does have better nightlife but I was surprised how rubbish it was for a big world city, just lots of grotty bars that stay open all hours, but nightclubs are few and far between, Melbourne has much better nightlife overall. Perth is surprisingly good when you know where to go too, has a much more varied music scene than say Brisbane because of the isolation and being first stop for a lot of UK bands and DJs, but is not as good as Melbourne again.

Hey, I'm one of the biggest advocates of Perth around. But Perth and Sydney are chalk and cheese and you sound like a Sydney type of person.

Perth is a lot quieter than Sydney, however I cant see how you can judge it in one day!!

well if you like something you like it, if you dont you dont!!

It wasnt just me, my partner and brother all disliked it and it was a joint desicion to leave asap, its not personal against you, it just wasnt what we wanted, as young 21 year olds.

if i dont like something straight away, then thats it, no matter how long i give it, i wont change my mind.

Not saying its horrible, just didnt suit me then and wouldnt of suited our family now.

mmmm k

Either way, Perth is good for getting a life. WA has a massive shortage of trade qualified mechanics so the pay is good if you find the right job. My father manages a Midas store, has managed a KMart store and has found it increasingly difficult to find good, solid mechanics who want to work.
