Thanks. yes unusual but I am. coming from the Bahamas so trying to settle somewhere I would find sort of similar.

There are a few towns on the Queensland coast that would fit the description of Hicksville or Ockerville even more so than Townsville.

Why the choice of these two? The general rule of thumb for Australia, is go to Sydney or stay at home. Townsville is an awful, god-forsaken place, broad hot dusty streets full of Macdonalds and KFC. Perth is nicish but so isolated, unless you have decided to hide from life, go to Sydney, bear in mind that you are on the other side of the world and it is a long way to anywhere else, so it is far more important to live in a decent city than it is in Europe. I made the huge mistake of moving to Melbourne from Sydney with work, and really regret it. A nice enough town in it's own right, but the people have chips the size of Ireland on their shoulders about Sydney, the restaurants are crap, six months and I'm yet to find a good butcher and I am convinced that all the good fruit & veg go to Sydney and Melbourne gets the leftovers. Very little to do unless you are an alcoholic or just want to stay in the garden with your kids.

May be your rule of thumb but it's certainly not general. If everyone thought like you do then Sydney would be heaving and covering half of NSW. Thankfully everyone wants and likes different things out of life.

Gold Coast or Benidorm? Either really, both hell holes full of brits eating egg & chips. At least there is some culture in Benidorm I'd imagine.

Townsville is less isolated than Perth and is probably less boring too.
