Default Perth to Sunshine or Gold Coast

Hi all, wondering if anyone can help????? Weve been in Perth now for nearly 2 years, never having been here before..however, its never been for me, so were going to try Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast over East. My hubby loves it here and is doing really well work wise,,,,however, hes aware of how I feel and is willing, i wouldnt say happy! to try somewhere else, just refuses to go back to the UK!!

Anyway, ANY advice would be good!! We have relatives in the Gold Coast who we can stay with as a base, they live in Ormeau....we hope to go for 2 weeks to take a look around. Do you think this is long enough to look and gold and sunshine coasts? I hope so, and really hoping the woooo factor will kick in from what i have read it seems to have what im looking for. All my friends keep telling me its too humid and i will hate it and the wages are low with not many jobs,,,this is very scary as we live week by week and have no savings as such....saying that, its no different to how we were in the uk, differnce here is we have managed to buy a house with a pool as first time buyers so im not complaining!!!! although the mortgage is massive!!

Anyway, any thoughts?? if it were me i would just go without looking, we did that when we came here, and although it hasnt worked out here for me i would be willing to take the chance again because i just want to be settled

Do most people live near the coast???? and i suppose asking about areas is practically impossible!!! we will prob only be able to buy for about 380.00 so i understand we may need to rent instead, i would just rather feel contented in the place i live....if that makes sense!

Sorry for the long thread, hubby has only just agreed to try as hes sick of me moaning I think so im all excited!!!! need to get it sorted before he changes his mind!!

Thanks in advance

Gold Coast, but then I'm biased!

For heavens sakes, don't buy with the interest rates as they are. Rent and wait for the prices to soften.

Me and the gf are thinking exactly the same thing. We have been in Perth about 6 months now and although we find the place really nice it's a bit quiet for us. We are really into our music, live gigs and all things indie and there's no scene in Perth for that. Also it's proving expensive to live and socialise here after finding out that the WA streets aren't always paved with gold!!

We are thinking Sydney or Melbourne, maybe Brisbane. I think only city living is going to keep us satisfied for social life. Just wondering what it is about Perth that's made you to decide to look else where?

I agree with your husband though anywhere except the UK!!!

I have a feeling that they are, it's hard to find out what they're actually selling for and some agents don't even bother listing with a price (Crasto for instance) which bugs me. Some houses we've looked at have been on the market for a while now.

We may look seriously again around June/July time but tbh I think we're better off leaving the lump sum in NZ (where we've just moved from ) as the interest rates are even higher there. Prices are already on the way down in NZ and Auckland has become a buyers market - I can see the same happening here.

Besides which.....the LAFHA allowance is just too juicy to loose!

Hi there, me and my boyfriend are in exactly the same position as you we moved here last August and are going to Sydney and Melbourne next week to check it out. We have been living in Northbridge since we have been here and we have enjoyed it but not sure if its for us long term as (for me) you can either live in the city in a unit or have the bigger house but have to move further away then have the problem of having to drive everywhere as in some of the suburbs there is not a lot to do. We enjoy going to see bands and have seen a few live gigs since we have been here which have been great but hope there will be more going on in Sydney and Melbourne.

Not only do we think the same, my gf's name is also Louise too.

We live about 2 mins from Northbridge maybe we could all meet up for a drink and you can tell us what you found out over east?

We've been to Sydney and Melbourne but weren't really looking at them as places to live at the time. Melbourne is cool it is supposed to be the live musical capital of Aus.

I have lived in Brisbane and the GC,

they are great places, try them, you will always know then.

Perth is great, but I am easy to please, having returned to UK, anything is better than that crap hole...

What kind of weather do you all want ? Is the weather important to you ?
Perth has plenty of music gigs etc-you just need to know where to go on what nights.

If I were in your shoes, I'd head for melbourne...great music, bars, restaurants etc....

Brisbane has a good music scene and bars, restaurants etc but I don't think it'll provide the kind of city-living you are looking for....
cheers

If you like Perth dry heat and do not like humidity, don't bother !
If you like it dry in the summer and wet in the winter, don't bother !

Otherwise you'll be fine
