Perth or the sunshine coast???
We moved to Perth 4 years ago, loved it here at the beginning but just come back from Mooloolaba and now thinking of moving over, has anybody moved from Perth to the sunshine coast, would love to hear other views. Perth is great with good schools etc. but so far away from the rest of Australia!
We are trying to really get to know as much as We can before We make the decision instead of just moving and regretting it!

5 - 10 minutes to the beautiful beaches and the Sunshine Plaza (for shopping) and not too far to the hinterland (Montville etc)
We love it here :-))

But at this point in time the main reason we couldnt do it is work, (unless we were keen to try something totally new and set it up from scratch) a commute to Brisbane isnt realistic (plus I dont think I could work there, thought it was a bit of a dump)
Another thing is the proximity of Perth to the coast, having a major city that close to the ocean is a rarity and definitely has its benefits.
If your only reason is proximity to the rest of Australia, thats something i've never really understood, unless your in a position to be going somewhere by plane every month I cant see what difference it makes, for the two or three trips a year most are lucky to do, what difference does an extra couple of hours make in the air when you've still got the hassle of getting to and from the airporty etc. The saving of a few $'s surely cant be enough to convince someone to upsticks and move across the country.
Be interested to hear what you decide to do though.

Nope, I'd say Mountain Creek is just about perfect. The primary school has got a good reputation, our son goes to the high school and it seems very good.

From an investment point of view any ideas what the market's like for rentals? much demand? any idea what a property at say $400K would rent for a week, would it manage $400?
Just thinking long term (ie 10-15yrs) whether its worth potentially buying somewhere now that will almost self fund itself and then bowl it over if the time becomes right and stick something new up...
Does that area get ocean views at all?
Sorry for all the questions, hopefully some of the info might also be useful to the OP, so I havent totally hijacked it!

Knocks the socks off the Sunshine Coast.
Isolation is a state of mind.

No Ocean views in Mountain Creek, you'd need Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Cotton Tree or Alexander Headland to be next to the ocean. There's also lots of smaller places between here and Noosa and here and Caloundra that are really nice.
Can't help on the investment front, I know rentals are few and far between and the owners choose the tenants.
I've just seen a house for sale at $435,000 - it's rented out at $360 per week

Whats the property market done around those parts over the past 12months or so?

For a house around 400k you cab expect to rent for around $360 pw. This is nowhere near your covering your costs and you will have a shortfall each month of around $700 after agents fees.
The last 12mths have been pretty stable on the Sunny Coast there was a huge boom 3 yrs back since then it has been static.
The Sunshine Coast is a great place to live - but be aware that jobs for certain professions are few and far between. If you are a tradie then you will be fine as there is still lots of building going on. Anything office based etc is harder to find. We have just moved away as my hubby could not find any decent jobs without commuting 1 1/2 hrs to Brissie.

not while Mark's contracted to Noosa area for 3 years! Maybe for a holiday in a few years. To be honest we thought we'd miss family, we've learnt the hard way that they don't miss us, they don't miss anyone! They just plod along with their lives. We don't even get phonecalls anymore on the kids birthdays!

ahh we're over it, (well getting over it)! Mark has said I have to stop doing all the calling as its always us that puts the effort in. We even set up a website to make things easier. Our friends are great, they email and call us weekly but nothing from family. No doubt when they want something they'll call : )
