Perth suburbs - any recommendations?
 

Gday all. Moving from Sydney to Perth in a couple of weeks, and had in mind to look around Como/South Perth/east Vic Park area for somewhere to unpack our gear, but thought I might ask up for any thoughts on other areas.

Criteria are not many, but top of the list is it must be under half an hour, door to door from home to the city centre by public transport. We're looking for a free standing house, 3+/2/DLUG and were looking around the 500/wk mark. Good pubs and cafes would be a plus, not fussed about schools and kiddy infrastructure for the time being.

Grateful of any info you could share on your suburb if you're in Perth already.

These are good choices of suburbs for singles or couples, although lots of families live there too.

Similar suburbs north of river (NOR) are Leederville, West Leederville, North Perth, Mt Lawley, Highgate, Inglewood, Subiaco, Shenton Park, West Perth, East Perth, Nedlands, Claremont, Mosman Park, Mt Hawthorn, Maylands, Bayswater (last 2 have good and not so good parts). A few other suburbs are close in, but not so many cafes/restaurants, such as Daglish, Jolimont, Mt Claremont. Beach and cafe lifestyle: North Fremantle, Cottesloe, Swanborne, Scarborough, Doubleview, Trigg, North Beach.

Vic park would be good.Lots of cafes there and has a good vibe.Also look at Leederville and Mount Lawley.Good luck with your move.:thumbsup:

Bear in mind that you can find a nice rental in an area you like at a price you can afford but if you wanted to buy in the same area it may well be financially out of reach; rentals here are often considerably lower than the cost of a mortgage on the same place.

Bollocks I give great advice.

South Perth and Como are cool areas. Heaps of restuarants, cafes also very close to the city in some cases you could ferry it across.

Cheers all. Familiar of course with the stupid gulf in pricing, but frankly real estate in Perth and environs looks like a veritable bargain even at the top of the market by comparison to out-of-control Sydney; it's this that's driving our move primarily.

I lived in South Perth for 9 months, albeit many years ago, and loved it. Was back in the Windsor the other night. Still a cracking boozer

Yep, lived in Como last time we lived in Perth in 2008 - kids went to school in South Perth and husband worked there. Nice restaurants and cafes and a quick drive across the bridge to the Raffles for a change of scenery. The kids loved it wanted, to move back there when we moved back to Australia in October.
