"Perth ranks lowest for IT salaries"
If I had a $ for everytime I saw a question on here from an IT guy about which city is best I'd have enough for a new laptop. So this headline in the West Australian newspaper (paper version only it seems) should interest lots of you. As an example:"senior webmasters who are looking at $60,000 in Perth, compared to $90,000 for the same role in Sydney, Adelaide and the ACT".

Is it because Perth has a realistic idea what webmasters are really worth?

I suspect its because theres not as many large corporations here in perth than on the east coast. Most IT work in perth seems to be based at small firms which then provide consulting services to lots of small and medium companies which are not big enough to have their own internal dedicated IT teams.

Is this really a surprise to anyone? Salaries are lower in Perth for the same reason they are lower in Newcastle than London: lack of demand.
The real problem here is that compared to other Australian cities the cost of living in Perth isn't any lower, in fact I believe it is higher!
