Perth Hills area-are there any local laws relating to pets?
Arriving in WA in Sept and hoping to rent in Perth Hills area. We have a dog and cats coming with us. When we lived in Victoria we had to have a permit to have 3cats plus register them all with the local shire annually, good idea imo. Are there similar rules for pets in WA and any local laws re: pets specific to Perth Hills area. Bit worried as just read newspaper article on internet that shire in that area only allows 1 cat as designated flora and fauna zone?
Thanks for any info.

If you find the website for the local council in the area any info will be on there, and/or send them an email.
I did this when we were looking for areas with 4 dogs to see what size acreage we needed.

Cats are fine in a lot of burbs... Urbanisation's got rid of most of the wildlife anyway... And lets face it, they provide a handy snack for the larger displaced australin birds of prey

thanks again steve and to everyone who answered, hamster comment and no cats comment excluded! For others who might need to know, very helpful reply from Ranger at Kalamunda Shire and Mundaring, no specific rules re: registration of cats in these shires, but, as all cats should be, shire would like the cats to be neutered and microchipped. There are rules for registering your dog though, straightforward and as ever a fee to pay.

In the Shire of Mundaring, you'll definitely need a permit for the three kittehs.

There are certain exclusion zones where you can't have cats, but these are all nature-reserve type places. Also, beware of ferals. Our cat had a run in with one, and it might have ended badly if we hadn't been around to chase off the giant feral cat-monster. Not trying to put you off or anything.
