Glad you asked. You may wish to seek urgent attention if feeling unwell.Something quite rare, found in the Natal region of RSA, and lays dormant in the blood stream for a considerable period of time. I believe it is rather contagious but being in The Hills should keep others 'safe'.


But back on topic, as these matters can have a habit of running away from thread object.I suspect the lack of vibrancy up in the Hills, would compound many times a Saturday night in Central Perth. It quite possibly would appear akin to times Square, under such circumstances.

I doubt very much that you get it. But anyway, always 'nice' to hear positive reports about our city when the 'country cousins' come to town on their annual night out.

Anyway back on track. The Sculpture by the Sea has began its 18 day display at Cottesloe Beach. There are 72 displays on offer to view with some 270,000 visitors expected.


Usually a few quirky pieces worth a gander.

Sculpture by the Sea well worth viewing. Lots of people though and parking at a premium. Perfect sea side day today though, minus the too often strong wind, making beach uncomfortable.


There is a viewing centre with sculpture for sale, some pieces for several thousand dollars and a number for near $2,000 mark.


Will probably go again tomorrow but earlier, like 7.30 in order to beat the other visitors and get a few more uninterrupted photos.

Well in that case we will likely pass you as another silhouette among the maddening mob. As early as possible should do the trick then a dip a little further up the beach.


Leederville, my manor has main road closed tomorrow afternoon, third time on successive Sundays now, and the last, should be that way every Sunday, something I'll bring up with the City in due course, but a great way to go. We had Latino dancing like Samba and Tango two weeks back, but last week was a bit tame. Still lovely sitting outside within a traffic free environment. The Malaysian restaurant Ria has a special cheap menu, will return there again then on to The Garden Pub for mains......
St Patricks Day celebration kicks off with a street parade on Saturday 17 ....with all day celebrations at the Leederville Oval in town here.....


Perth the city of happening.....

The only time I've been to Perth was a month in 1983/4 and it was dire. I was not a fan at all. When I got home I could only describe the place as Milton Keynes with sunshine (MK was shite back in the early 80s as well). It can only have improved and from what I hear from friends it certainly has.

Have you been to Thailicious in Northbridge? Great food and low prices. It's a pre rooftop movies tradition for me.

I wouldn't have said it was MK-worthy; certainly after the mining money came in. Biggest issue is the lack of different things to do, after you have been there a while. It's still relatively small and lacks destinations (Margaret River again), so you end up feeling isolated from what happens in the east. It, like many Australian cities, probably needs more attention to making itself a destination.

A rather accurate assessment of the time. A real Bogan town in those times. (Bogans had a slightly different connotation in those days) Never been to Milton Keynes, thank goodness, but while a similar emptiness I suspect clearly evident, perhaps Perth had something of a more Wild West feeling?
Lots of anger simmering underneath, very racist, all in all a place I was well happy to leave.


Changes have certainly occurred over time. Sometimes the 'old' survives' in places but the conservative nature still remain a little too obvious along with a small town mentality receding but not gone. One can only encourage change and hope for a more cosmopolitan outlook on life is stimulated by such changes.


At heart we remain a suburban city of course with attitudes to match. Just not quite as much as previous generations either complied with or were forced to get out for own sanity.

I would agree. I'm sure this realisation has struck home in certain relevant quarters but location and distance will always play a part. There has been much discussion with regards to isolation, with denial that it poses issues quite a common theme. I rather take an opposite view, not purely due to physical location but in my case the isolation encourages/allows a sense of provincialism to over dominate a large segment of consciousness and often to trivialise any desire towards deeper understanding, just over hearing what passes as conversation can be a mite 'disappointing' at times.

Indeed it is. Not ben to Thailicios as of yet, but heard about it. Will certainly look in after such a recommendation.
