If your package is worth what I think it should be, ie. mid 6 figure salary per annum + LAFHA you will be just fine. We have a HUGE mortgage and we still manage to put a bit aside and enjoy a good life.

So, according to those sources the average wage is higher in perth than the UK.... so why all the complaining?

Perth also had the biggest mining boom in 2005/2006 so people looking at normal jobs should be aware huge mining wages would push this years figures up a bit.

I'm not aware of any 2006 figures for the UK, but here's the 2005 figures from the UK government's National Statistics Website:
The median annual pay for full-time women increased by 4.8 per cent in 2005 to £19,400.
Median annual earnings for full-time employees for the 2004-05 tax year stood at £22,900, up 3.8 per cent on the previous year.
Full-time males earned £25,100, up 3.5 per cent.
So...
Average UK salary: £24,900 = $54,960.
Average Australian salary before overtime & bonuses: $53,860 = £22,900. With overtime & bonuses: $56,350 = £23,479.
In short, the difference between the two countries is negligible.

Re: Perth Cost of Living
These are very interesting figures Vash. So the wages are pretty much the same, but cost of living is the same. maybe a little more in Perth. Perth is supposed to be one of the cheapest cities in Oz in which to live. So by that reckoning, if you lived in Melbourne, you would be worse off than the uk?
But aren't houses cheaper?
