Hi Dave,

we travelled from Perth to Bunbury-Busselton- Margaret River-Augusta-Walpole-Albany-Perth. found it very easy, just pick up a UBD (AA style map book) for aboot $20. Roads are all named so for me it was easier to navigate than in the uk. We got lost only once and found our way out no probs. Very beautiful drive takin in a lot of OZ scenery. Enjoy.

Really easy, you could it without a map, although if you are getting a hire car there should be a map in it.

You'll be fine - just know its a long way between anything so if you think you are on the wrong road you probably arent - just that you havent got anywhere. Get a map (i prefer StreetSmart to UBD) and its got a lot of local out of city roads too. Its a nice drive once you get past Mandurah and just sit and cruize at 100.

P-O-P mate!!!!!!!!!

No, seriously, it;s a blimmin doddle!

One road that runs down the coast - the occasional turn off if you want to see a beach or summit, just go back the way you came to get back on the main drag!!

Really, really easy!

Drove from Mandurah down to Augusta at Christmas last year it is a very nice drive and it is quite easy few good places to stop of on the way, the kari trees are something else.

driving around Perth is dead easy.....
If you go too far west you hit the ocean.
Too far east and you hit the hills (or bush if you're further south).
The only ways to really go are North and South.
Plenty of little towns around even in the south-west.
Have fun!
Oh, and keep your headlights on in the daytime when driving on the country roads/freeways. I thought it was stupid when I heard of it, but when you drive those long straight roads at 110kph it's not as easy as you'd think to see cars coming/entering. I think it's mainly for cars entering so they can see you coming, but it makes driving a hell of alot safer. Cars just aren`t as visible in this climate as they are in the UK.

As others have said, its a doddle, just watch out for hidden speed camera's and try not to get too frustrated at how long it takes you to get round Mandurah because of the way they've laid the roads out, you can easily waste 30mins getting round it...

Very nice journey - did it in Feb this year.
Another note - they under/overtake on the highways on both sides And stick to the speed limits

The first couple of times I went that way I made the same mistake. As you get near to Mandurah you are on Safety Bay Road but you have to take a left (from memory there are a couple of choices either Old Mandurah Road or Erin Road) but if you stick with Safety Bay Road you end up doubling back on yourself and heading north along the coast. I knew immediately we were wrong when the sea was on the left but had to retrace our path.

But apart from that bit there is really no way you can get lost.
