Perth or Brisbane

Hello everyone,

We applied for a 175 visa Nov 07 and are still waiting for our visa but should have it shortly. When we applied we put Perth as our destination. Since applying we have sold our house (we move out on 01 Aug)but had to drop the price by £45,000 to do so and with the exchange rate what it is we are going out with a lot less $$$'s than we had hoped to! Now Perth looks a bit pricey for what we have and we are considering Queensland but know very little about the territory other than the house prices are considerably cheaper than Perth.
I am a plumber and was wondering if there is as much need for plumbers there as there is in Perth?

I was also wondering if we have to stay in Perth as that is what we put on our visa application or if we can live wherever we want in Oz?

Any help would be appriciated......

Cheers Darren

If you get a 175 visa you can live and work anywhere in the country that pleases you. It's impossible for anyone to say "move to Perth" or "move to Brisbane". As a plumber you will find work no matter where you go, so do some research on things other than the price of property and made an informed decision.

"As a plumber you will find work no matter where you go"
this is not the case in oz as a plumber.

We have done extensive research and visited friends in Perth and hadn't considered anywhere else until now. But with the amount that we will have to take with us and with the exchange rate what it is Perth may not be viable anymore. We have two children to think of,a girl of 5 and a boy of 18 months and it is their security that we are thinking of.
I was hoping to get some first hand accounts of Queensland ie. cost of living, lifestyle and suburbs etc... to help our research that we are doing now..

Many Thanks

Darren

Yes we have looked into licencing and I am going to go back to college by the looks of it but that isn't a problem.

this may be of use to you. http://www.workliveplay.qld.gov.au/d...nt.cfm?id=3258
You can compare property prices on real estate of areas you were looking at in perth to those in Brisbane to see if it is in fact cheaper.. I think you may find some more expensive over this way.
good luck

I agree with what you say about the house prices, but over in Brisbane we could look a bit further away from the city to find something a bit more affordable which we can't do over in Perth as it is so isolated!

Surely that has answered your question then.

Seriously if you are having doubts about Perth then don't bother with it and g for Brisbane.

We are just at the applying stage, I am a spark and thinking of Melbourne or Tas ourselves. Any thoughts on either of these?

I would agree, in England anyone can just decide to call themselves a plumber.

Hello bu1lder
could you explain what you meant by saying "in England anyone can just decide to call themselves a plumber" is it because the plumbing over there is so different to the UK? Or is it because there are a lot of people out there as plumbers who actually arn't?(chancers)

cheers
Darren
